I don't disagree with that either but I don't believe Ange was McKay's man

He wasn't, I think Ange was recruited via the City Group, Yokohama are part of it. Would suspect Howe was who Mckay wanted.

We got really lucky that Ange is a class act and manager imo, not giving the board any credit for it.

The questions he was asked by radio scotland reporter were bonkers. Asking him if he would try and convince the players to take both jags and asking him what he thought of the vaccine passport. Dealt with them well to be fair but questions designed to draw out a headline

His answer about the Green Brigade banner was class, the polar opposite from some of the pish Lennon spouted whilst towing Lawwell’s line.

You can guarantee any response from Lennon would have been a targeted slaughter of the fans, calling out short memories whilst singing the praises of the “custodians”. So refreshing to hear a manager capable of choosing wise words and offering a fair response to a question obviously posed to cause upset.

Aye he had knowledge of him, meaning he probably knew of him. There’d be no reason at all for him to kno Ange on a professional level enoug to hire him for us.

Howe fell through and we done what we always do when we have no clue or idea of what to do or who to sign. Went to the city group and they sorted us out, normally with loans but this time a manager. So I can confidently say this was a board led acquisition.

He could have thought highly of him and knew due to links he was a feasible target. Anyway it doesn't really matter, I'm quite fond of the guy and he has improved the team massively on last season.

I think this is probably what happened as well, and I have been thinking for a while that the reason for this is because it gives the City Group a good chance to test how Ange does in Europe and at a big club with pressure.

Bit of an aside, but I stumbled across this on the reasoning for Ange walking away as Australia manager. Kind of interesting as it highlights his principled and in some ways idealistic approach to management.

"I went into the job wanting to make a change," he begins.

"When I was appointed, Australia had just been beaten 6-0 twice [by Brazil and France], it was at the lowest ebb. So I thought 'here is an opportunity to really change things'.

"So for me the Holy Grail was changing Australian football in the way we play, the way we think about ourselves, the way we develop our players. That was the exciting thing and I took that job thinking: 'What a great opportunity'.

"Our best ever generation of players is retiring and a new generation is coming in. To me it was like a four- to eight-year journey in changing the game.

"But when it got tight in qualifying I got the sense everyone in the organisation [FFA] forgot what the initial brief was. We just have to qualify for the World Cup. Nothing else matters. It doesn't matter how we play or what comes next. "I said 'No, no, that's not why I took this job'. In the end we delivered anyway, got qualification. And I went off into the sunset because I didn't get what I wanted. I wanted something different.

"People are still critical of you because you walked out on something. Well, I felt like I had to walk away if that was all they were interested in."
