While I can't disagree with a large part of your post, to suggest Abildgaard can come in and improve us in the CL at this stage is complete speculation. He might look good in clips online (dunno how much of him you've watched apart from that) but we've had that numerous times over the years, Kouassi springs to mind as he came from Russia with big expectations to kick on and couldn't get a game.

He definitely has the attributes and style that we might need, but it's impossible to judge his ability properly until he plays for us, let alone compare him to our tried and trusted captain who we've all seen develop for years now.

It will be interesting to see where Ange puts him in, either to push McGregor upfield in place of O'Riley or to rest/rotate directly with him in the deep lying role.

The comparison with Broony makes sense to me not only because of their positions but because of their role as captains. Broony was effectively undroppable due to the role he played as captain on pitch. I'd question whether Calmac provides the same presence on-pitch as Broony did. I think he's less indispensible than Broony was during his prime for that reason, as well as the reason that there's now higher level competition for spots across the midfield.

How to say you don't know anything about football without saying you don't know anything about football.

    Calmac is * slick.

He's just so good at everything he does.

To claim that without Calmac we wouldn't dominate Shaktar and wouldn't score 4 against Rangers requires justification. I don't think any one player contributes that much to our team but I could be wrong. If you know that much about football, you can have no problems stating why we'd take such a major step back without him on pitch.

    Calmac is a terrific footballer.

    There's your explanation.

By the way, water is wet. Fire is hot.

Mcgregor is the literal backbone of the team, his work ethic and work rate is astonishing. If he's not got the ball he's chasing, or getting back. To an extent if you look at, say, Lennon as a player, didn't do anything special but did things well, Calmac does that x100 as he's able to create and score goals, as well as hold the teams shape and his dribbling skills.

Me and @Hammy89 don't often see eye to eye but this one he's spot on.

    Genuinely hadn't notice.

If we don't, you should stop being such a * diva and just agree with me:79:

Completely agree, which is unusual as me and @Noskeil * hate each other.

He's just so good at everything he does.

Not only is the above correct. You can fire in a ball at him and he'll control it with ease and pass it straight away, setting the tone.

He is by far our best midfielder. If we had two more McGregor's we'd easily be making strides in Europe.

It's actually weird that I can't remember him being a fringe player, just seems to have been in the first team his entire career lol

    Aye, took an age.

He went out to Notts County and then didn't really play first team with us until 23, I'm sure.

Whit a player though. So good.

Think sitting midfielder is ideal for calmac because if I had one gripe with him is he doesn’t score enough goals , even when he player further forward I always thought it was the one thing that he needed to improve on

And would be more slick in his natural role next to hatate.
Think in Europe away with a deep lying defensive mid and calmac and hatate would be mint

Isn't really a debate if McGregor is important to us or not. It's blindly obvious he is. As others have pointed out great work rate, spots a pass, is there for the tackle and when the opportunity presents itself he can finish. Perhaps more importantly he is always available, no matter where we are on the pitch, in possession or without he is there. Dont think he has hit his best this season granted but still a very consistent and top performer in this team

Some level of analysis. Being such a terrific footballer, he'll be a shoe-in to start in his natural position ahead of Hatate/O'Riley now that Abildgaard's in the team.

    A shoe-in?

He's literally the first name on the team sheet.

I’ve been patching on here for the most part since St Mirren, has it seriously got to the fanatical * opinions stage that McGregor is being talked about if he’s important for us? Not even used in the correct role or at his best, if he’s important? * me, I hope he continues being available for every game so * don’t need to see how irreplaceable he is

I’ve said this a few times as well, Abilgaard is in a * of a position needing to live up to what people hope he is, which will be a miracle if he is actually that.

    * are expecting, not just hoping, expecting him to be Wanyama and McGregor rolled into the same player.

He won’t be, he’ll be good, I’m sure of that but he’ll not be what people are expecting since the last few games
