CELTIC are tracking Costa Rica wonderkid Andy Rojas.

The 18-year-old attacker earned a Copa America call-up after an impressive season with Herediano.


Sources in Rojas’ homeland claim Celtic are one of several European clubs eyeing him up.

The highly-rated forward made history with a late substitute appearance for Costa Rica in Friday night’s 3-0 loss to Colombia.

Rojas became the youngest player to ever represent his nation at the Copa America.

He can play anywhere across the frontline and is being tipped to make a big move this summer.


Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers plans to add established players to his squad. But the Hoops are also after talented youngsters.

Celtic are monitoring Rojas’ situation — but face competition from Italy and Holland.

Herediano vice-president Aquil Ali said: “We’ve had conversations with people in Europe and I believe we’ll soon have something more concrete.”

I'd rather we gave that spot to one of our youth. His record is alright but not outstanding.

We need Homegrown, of were going to sign an 18 year old then he better be a superstar to be that will be an immediate first team player. This boy won't be that. All this would be is a blocker to our own youth coming through

 

If we sign an 18 y/o, then he would be homegrown after three years just like a Celtic youth player is.

We should have better pathways for sure, but we that shouldn't prevent us from signing a young, international who has a full season of professional football under his belt.

 

We cannot afford 18-year-old superstars. Frimpong and Ajer were 18 when we signed them. Neither of them were established players, yet they proved to be great signings. Wouldn't be against signing an upcoming player as our 3rd striker. Like calmac said, he could potentially become club grown after 3 years, just like Ajer. Frimpong never did cause we sold him to Leverkusen.

 

If vata is offski this lad would be an ideal youngster to bring in to be our 3rd choice versatile forward.

Ajer is Scottish home-grown because we got him at 16, can't do that anymore because of Brexit, this boy would hit age before he would be

 

Ajer was 16, but already had a ton of football under him, frimpong was signed as a youth and turned out an absolute gem yes, we should sign talent if it's available, but this boys record doesn't scream great to me, similar to tillio really...

 

Tillio was nearly 22 when we signed him. This lad is 18 and playing at Copa America

 

Ajer was born in April 1998. He joined Celtic in June 2016. He was 18 at the time, yet he's considered homegrown.

 

This comparison would work better if Tilio wasn't 4 years older than Rojas. Rojas has scored for his national team as well.
