Celtic are interested in FC Lausanne-Sport midfielder Alvyn Sanches but the Scottish giants will not get a free run at the Swiss youngster. Clubs from the Championship and on the continent are also tracking the 21-year-old, whose impressive individual season has caught the eye in various parts of Europe.

Born in France but capped for Switzerland at youth level, Sanches has been on Lausanne's books for over a decade. Although the team struggled in the Swiss Super League last season, he notched six goals in 27 appearances from the middle of the park.

Express Sport understands that Celtic sent scouts to assess Sanches at various points in 2023/24, and the reigning Scottish Premiership champions retain an interest heading into the summer transfer window.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be impressed with Sanches, who is expected to leave Lausanne over the coming weeks. However, any prospective move will hinge on whether the Swiss club's £4.3million asking price is met.

And Celtic aren't the only club weighing up whether to test Lausanne's resolve. Championship sides Stoke City and Coventry City have both been keeping a close eye on Sanches' situation, as well as teams in Germany, France and the Netherlands

Technical and tenacious with an eye for a goal, Sanches has already banked almost 100 senior games since making his Lausanne debut only three months after his 18th birthday, and he is rated as one of the most exciting young talents in Swiss football.

FC Lausanne-Sport is owned by INEOS - the company, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which holds a controlling stake in Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and bought a minority stake in Manchester United earlier this year.

See being fair he’s been quote at €5m and Rieder was €15m. Maybe more like Jashari we were linked with. Also got linked with Jenz when he was at Lausanne and Archie Brown last year too, so we maybe watch the Swiss league closely for some reason.

Or knowing us it will be someone connected to someone at the club has something to do with Lausanne.

He looks a talent either way.

    Hmm disagree, here.

Reider was always going to be going for £12m plus. He was always going to be out of budget. He also played for a far more established team in Young Boys, with CL experience and Europa League experience. Sanches has none of that.

Aye tbh I'm just very skeptical of these links now. Being a pessimistic * this summer so I don't get my hopes up.

As above it was kinda tongue in cheek. I take that he's a different player, lads fs:56:

He plays in Switzerland and there's a load of clubs after him. Not getting my hopes up.

    Best way

Lausanne are owned (or at least associated) with INEOS, I believe? Pafundi who I believe is on loan there with an obligation, is probably Italy’s brightest prospect and looks incredible, but already miles out of our range

I know nothing about this guy but £4m+ seems a bit steep for someone relatively unproven, and would be a wee bit underwhelmed if he was our MOR replacement

It is associate with INEOS it was their first move into football. They are largely a yo-yo club between the top league and second league in Switzerland.

Being fair they have had a few players recently and the reaction has been I wouldn’t pay £3-4m for them and they have had a move to Belgium or a bigger club in Austria or Switzerland and they are going for a good profit on what they paid Lausanne for them.

Archie Brown at Gent is a prime example of this he went there for £3m last summer from Lausanne and is now linked with Villa this summer, so will go for a lot more.

Cameron Puertas at USG moved there for £3-4m will likely be sold for 8 figures this summer.

Jenz went to Lorient from Lausanne, for £3m or so and it didn’t work there but got a move to Wolfsburg for about £8m or so.

Looks okay. Noting to blow you away.

At the price point and age, it would have to be a more assured future project, but one that needs game time.

My big issue with a guy like this, is he clearly needs coached and developed. It's hard to put in to words, I know some will throw Matt O'Reilly back as an example to contradict this, but we don't really do well in actually developing players.

Guys like Matt O'Reilly, CalMac, these are guys no matter where they are playing they would always have their own level of professionalism and seek to develop, learn and grow as a player no matter what.
You need that in every player to reach the top of their game, obviously. But some players need to be coached and helped and that's not overly something I find we are too good at.
Take Welsh as an example. A decent enough player, but we simply aren't able to coach him to be better and go up a level, he just is who he is.

It's something we did do with guys like Duff and Kewel at the club, brought guys like Abada up a notch, noticed in Abada second season he started to adapt his game and develop more. Third season much less so due to a number of reasons or course.

So aye, this Sanches looks decent, nothing special. But unless we are gonna be able to coach him up a level, not sure.

2 players in their mid to late 30s had better stats than this guy this season..can't see where he improves or strengthens the squad at all.
