    Everyone will have faith that Ange can coach a player to be better. The problem I have here is we looked like we were going out to try and get a defensive midfielder, who's first priority was tackling and intercepting balls. A wanyama style player, strong and commanding in that midfield. This guy seems to be more of a ball player, who likes to drift further forward and doesn't look anywhere near as physically imposing as Souza does. Again, he looks more like a ball playing centre mid as opposed to a destroyer. I think we lack someone in the middle of the park who's going to dominate it physically.... I hate to say it but like Lundstrum started to do for them at the back end of last season.

    PSV are in CL qualifying rounds and Celtic are in CL groups so hopefully that will sway for Souza but fingers crosses.

    I still have reservations about Ajax. Think clubs are circulating round Alvarez, the boy that plays as a defensive midfielder for them just now. If they lose him, Souza is a near perfect replacement.

    I think in this case there is valid reason to be concerned, just reading about him on paper and hearing from people who have actually seen him.

    We need someone who can come in and instantly be a presence in that position, dont really have time to iron out weaknesses which are quite big ones, it appears, for a guy in his position. Signing a DM who is known for being out of position and doesnt look that physically imposing...just a bit of a red flag for me immediately.

    Was more making the point that il judge a player when he comes to us, not before. YouTube clips etc can be deceiving. Bayo looked like the next Drogba for example.

    Looks very Bitton like in that photo :fear:

    We definitely need someone who can come in and improve the starting XI instantly and I don’t feel like this guy is that guy - based on his career to date and some of the assessments by people who’ve seen him.

    Vini Souza or we riot.

    It's what I noticed instantly from the highlights. How weak he was and easily brushed off the ball..

    Apparently * in the tackle as well. Had 7 bookings and 3 red's in 26 game's or something. Makes Soro seem like Kante..

    Older games so maybe unfair to judge him based on that but managed to catch 45 mins of him for Benfica vs AEK last night. Watching him the now for Notts Forrest vs Chelsea. Both games just passing him by and was even mocked by one of the commentators for losing the ball after holding onto it for far too long.

    He does look good in the air though...but that's about it.

    Anyone that pulls on the Hoops will have my backing 100% and if Ange wants him, then that's enough for me.

    However, it's a signing that's strange to say the least. The most positive comment I've seen about him is he's OK. Hardly inspiring. Doesn't say much for Ideguchi if we're bring him and looking to Souza as well, whilst keeping Mcarthy. That's not even taming Soro in to account either.

    He’s apparently not even one of the defensive midfielders we had enquired about. So either this has come out of absolutely nowhere or it’s a load of absolute nonsense.

    Personally, I think (and hope) it’s the latter.
