    My thinking as well.

Baffles me if we bid 8million for this guy, 2.7 for McGinn and 3.5 for McKenna, then if they are telling us the money was there, then why wasn't it spent sooner, or better spent?

Same goes for 9million euro on Edouard, if thats what we spent, then its worrying that we spent our whack on one player. So assume there was money there, why was it so badly used(or not?)

It said Anderlecht £7.2 million offers but not who the offer was from. If we did indeed have that kind of money to spend and couldn't find a player to improve our squad then things are actually worse than I believed.

Fortunately for my sanity I don't believe this

We have took in well over 100m in champions league/EL revenue and player sales over last 3 seasons alone.

We dont need to spend 8 million in the most well served position of our team and to be honest I dont remember this guy doing anything of notice against us

    It's not.

If you read it's originally a Belgian paper. Could still be * of course but it doesn't stem from them.

It’s weird that we bid 8 for this guy and had Piccini practically signed, neither happened and so instead of going for the next option on the list we seemed to just patch signing players in those positions (not sure if this guy was bid for before or after McGinn)

    http://www.talkingbaws.com/2018/11/...onfirms-he-was-in-advanced-talks-with-celtic/

Anderlecht playmaker Adrien Trebel has confirmed he came close to a move to Celtic in the summer, after admitting to advanced talks with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The former France Under-20 international, now 27, was apparently a man in demand during the close season, with the Hoops just one of a number of clubs looking to prise him away from the Belgian side.

Trebel played at Celtic Park in the Champions League last season, and when asked by Belgian newspaper HLN about interest from Celtic, Hertha Berlin and Porto, via the Daily Record, he explained: “I even had a personal agreement with Porto, I was also well advanced with the other teams you mentioned, but nobody wanted to pay the asking price.

According to various tabloid reports, Celtic weren’t willing to meet the £10million price-tag around Trebel’s neck, but should they have pushed the boat out for the former Standard Liege and Nantes player?

And where would he have fit into Rodgers’ system?

Apparently Anderlecht wanted £10m for him then? Can see why we didn’t do it. Cracking player but can we justify that on the strongest part of our team?

The fact the likes of Porto, having already agreed wages with him, and other clubs refused to pay it probably says it was the right decision as well.
