Didn’t carry them far without xavi, iniesta & a few other 50 million euro players.

Jonas to Benfica for free in 2014. Benfica has one the league in 2013-14 but it has been a period of almost exclusive Porto dominance. It was a signing that built on their success and led them to win 4 of the next 5 leagues with Jonas scoring 137 goals in 183 games over the period.

They had Youri Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro, Gary Speed, Ivan Campo and Jaaskelaine in that team as well to be fair :56:

Just to a league and a few cups.

If you watched that Barca team since Iniesta left in 2018 and don’t think Messi made them * knows what sport yer watching.

I wouldn’t say any of them elevated their teams to a different level.

Like them alone taking a team from challengers to champions, or relegation favourites to mid table.

Coaching is becoming more and more important so I think a single player making massive material change to a club is getting less and less.

More recently I’d probably say RVP to United but even then they only got one good season out of him so don’t know if that even really counts.

Fair enough for Payet, Haaland etc, but I honestly think the huns went up a level or two when Mcgregor signed for them.

He essentially won them so many games by himself, thankfully he looks to be declining but he definitely gave them a lift.

They were better the season before he joined them.

Top half finish and an FA Cup Final.

Falcao at Porto. Still had some other very good players but he was the difference, particularly in Europe. Even his first season at Atletico.

Diego Milito as well at Inter 2009/2010. Scored most of their big goals that season.

Eto’o for them that season was insane man, he dragged them up a level, had 23 Champions League games for them, 10 goals and 7 assists.

Weirdly I think he’s a guy that gets majorly overlooked now, never hear him brought up when people talk about the best strikers of the last 20 years or so.

Was the shinning light in some very dark days there in the early 90's for sure.
