Where are you getting your information from and what "experts" do you refer too?

I've worked in the energy sector for many years now, and I can comprehensively tell you, you are wrong - in fact you sound like you are reciting straight off a party hymn sheet.

BP and Glasgow based Britoil (who BP later bought) done two seismic surveys (this is all they done - didn't drill any boreholes to check rock samples) in the 80's looking for the right conditions for there to be oil/gas - mostly likely gas. There is usually 3 big conditions you are checking for on this (won't go into that now) but according to most geologists the Clyde firth has all the right criteria and meets those conditions for oil and gas. BP and the British government later "lost" all data relating to the surveys.

But after BP and Britoil done their surveys they applied for the licence - take what you wish from that. Once there licence period was over they never took it any further, people at the time rightly concluded there must have been nothing to it.

Wasn't until years later under the Freedom of Information act that official correspondence revealed the MOD had obtained a blanket ban on exploration shortly after BP had their results. (Again draw your own conclusions) Heseltine (Thatchers defence minister) has since openly admitted they blocked it.

At the end of they day we will never know if there is oil/gas there until we drill and find out. We won't be able to drill until Trident is removed from the area.

The implications for finding oil there are huge, imagine the impact and rejuvenation on the greater Glasgow area? No matter what side of the fence you sit on - there is no excuse for not allowing drilling to take place there.

    Great info mate :50:
Yet the government want to go ahead with fracking which puts to risk the health of residents in areas being drilled. Beyond belief it really is.

Yeah Spain would be dead against it but not much they could do, though tensions would be high again at the border.
Fracking has been shown to cause major problems in residential areas in America for years, it's banned in many countries as well since they know it poses many safety issues to the public. * sake Cameron saying the residents need to accept it, doesn't give a * about anyone in the country, all invested interests from his buddies that will line his and governments pockets.

Dear *. I read the daily Express article and I seen the Facebook post. Why are people so dumb? Genuinely. :56:

I mean there are a handful of nations that have nuclear deterrents but apparently, this is the safest option. I mean, every other nation has not a care and does not want to pay a high cost for such 'safety', yet Britain must - it would be such a threat not to! If we never had them, suddenly we would be bombed like mad.

    Jesus wept.

I didn't think I would have to explain fundamental basics here.
The markets have had time to see that the likelihood is going to be that there will be no single overall majority. The preferred option, in a choice between Tory and liebour Governments, for the city has historically been Tory. For an example of why, see what the previous labour government achieved :52:
If its a minority Tory Government, propped up by Ukip etc, the simple fact is the markets/city will react much better to that than labour/SNP.
Will markets recover/settle of course, as they always do, however I never said they would not.

Bigoted language shame of would-be SNP MP

A SNP parliamentary candidate was last night forced to make a grovelling apology after the Sunday Express revealed he repeatedly used football-related sectarian slurs.

O'Hara was forced into an apology after Sunday Express revelations Brendan O’Hara, who is the favourite to win the crucial marginal seat of Argyll and Bute, called Rangers supporters “huns” on a Celtic fans’ website.
It is an extremely insulting and bigoted term for the Ibrox club and their followers, although some would argue it is derogatory to all Protestants.
Use of the word has seen a number of people convicted of a criminal offence in Scottish courts and, last year, the Scottish Government’s own research revealed that the majority of Scots feel the term is “unacceptable”.

To further add to the SNP’s embarrassment, it can also be revealed Mr O’Hara once described ex-Celtic striker Maurice Johnston as a “rat” who should not “show his face” in Glasgow.
Johnston became the highest-profile Roman Catholic to play for Rangers.
Last night, political opponents and anti-sectarian campaigners blasted the slurs as “entirely unacceptable”.

Mr O’Hara, 51, has stood for the SNP in two previous General Elections – in Springburn in 1987 and Glasgow Central in 1992.
Under the pseudonym “spikeybhoy”, he made the comments on the Kerrydale Street forum.
The first came in the days following Celtic’s signing of Scott Brown in 2007. Despite it being heavily speculated the player was going to move to Rangers, he signed for Celtic for £4.4million.
Mr O’Hara wrote: “For those worried about the fee, think of it as £3.5million for the player and £1million to shove it up the huns. A great piece of business!”

He repeated the slur in 2008, commenting on the widespread trouble in Manchester following Rangers’ appearance in the UEFA Cup Final.

Responding to another user’s post, he wrote: “I reckon the point he’s trying to make is that we and the hun come from the same part of the world, share similar upbringing in terms of the influences around us and are by and large from the same demographic.
“Yet the hun CHOOSE to behave in the manner they do and we do not.”

And, in 1992, he was quoted as an “ardent Celtic follower” in a Chicago Tribune piece on the hatred between the Old Firm.
Asked about Johnston’s move to Ibrox he said: “The man’s a rat. I don’t think he can show his face in this town again.”

The revelation comes days after the SNP faced calls to sack its Edinburgh South candidate Neil Hay who used a secret Twitter account to brand anti-independence campaigners * collaborators and insult the elderly.

And, in February, the party’s Paisley and Renfrewshire South candidate Mhairi Black – a Partick Thistle fan – abused Celtic supporters on Twitter.
Last night, Mary Galbraith, who is standing against Mr O’Hara, said: “Someone making these kind of remarks is not fit to hold public office.

“Nicola Sturgeon has another embarrassment to face from one of her prospective candidates following the cybernat offerings from Paco McSheepie, better known as Neil Hay, and the rantings against Celtic fans from Mhairi Black.”

Liberal Democrat MP Alan Reid has held the Argyll and Bute seat since 2001, but Mr O’Hara is ahead in the polls this time round.
Mr Reid said: “It is crystal clear that there is no room for sectarianism or sectarian language in the open, tolerant Scotland that we all want to see.
“I would hope that people from all sides of the political spectrum would refrain from using inflammatory language.”

And a Conservative spokesman said: “It is entirely unacceptable from someone hoping to represent the public in Parliament.” Mr O’Hara now lives in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, with his wife and two daughters. He is an independent television producer who has worked on programmes for STV, Sky Sports and the BBC.

The Scottish Government’s approach to tackling sectarianism has been widely criticised, with its Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act being described as “mince” by one sheriff.

The Scottish Social Attitudes Survey 2014: Public Attitudes to Sectarianism in Scotland, commissioned by the SNP administration last year, showed just eight per cent thought the term “hun” was acceptable.

And, in 2011, minister Humza Yousaf – a Celtic fan – told the Scottish Parliament that the term was not acceptable in his view.
He said: “I am a Celtic supporter and I go to some of the games where I hear hundreds, if not thousands, of people singing, ‘Go home ya huns’. If the word hun does not refer to nationality, religion or any of the other categories that are listed in the bill, on what basis is that song sung?”

Last night, Dave Scott, director of anti-sectarian charity Nil By Mouth, said: “The internet often brings out the worst in people when it comes to posting provocative and offensive material and people all too often don’t think before they type.

“Research published by the Scottish Government earlier this year highlighted that a majority of people found using terms like ‘hun’ and ‘*’ to be unacceptable and whether you are part of this majority or not it’s clear that continued use of these terms, particularly from public figures hardly diffuse any lingering sectarian tensions in our society.”

Andy Kerr, of the Rangers Supporters Assembly, added: “What the SNP do is up to themselves, but the comments from this individual are inappropriate and hopefully the public will view them as inappropriate and act accordingly.”

A SNP spokesman said: “Brendan O’Hara interviewed Mo Johnston for a documentary a number of years after that comment was made. The two get on well, and Mo Johnston subsequently gifted Mr O’Hara the last shirt he wore in his playing career.

“Mr O’Hara acknowledges that in the past he used a derogatory term commonly used about Rangers supporters. It is not a term he would use any longer as thankfully football culture in Scotland has moved on from those days. He would apologise for any offence it caused.”

Well they introduced the anti-football bill. I wouldn't vote for the SNP for that alone.

Well they introduced the anti-football bill. I wouldn't vote for the SNP for that alone.

That's utterly ridiculous and I find it extremely offensive( and I'm not the easily offended sort) I'm getting branded as sectarian surely any decent lawer could get that paper done for libel

I'm really starting to strongly dislike the SNP

You only need that kind of "deterrent" if you're a warmonger.

    Hun isn't a religious slur, you brain-dead *.

If we're now using 'sectarian' to refer to any negative words that refer to any group, in this case supporters of a football club, then we've all * had it. I wish someone would call them out on this *! :31:

My favourite comment on the Daily Express today:

Brendan O'Hara[, eh?] Am I the only one who think Scottish Nationalism is really Irish Republicanism and that the SNP is really the Scottish wing of Sinn F[é]in?
