Aer Lingus customers who booked business class flights to the US for just €5 have been advised by the airline that their bookings have been cancelled.

The airline said the flights - which were advertised on the Aer Lingus website yesterday morning - were priced incorrectly due to a technical error. The airline has apologised for the error.
Aer Lingus says the glitch affected a little over 100 customers between 7.30am and 9am on Wednesday, when promotional fares on its transatlantic route were loaded onto the website accidentally.
The airline says that on legal advice it has decided not to compensate the customers. In e-mails and text messages to the customers, Aer Lingus advised: "Due to a technical error in our reservation system for a brief period a small number of bookings were priced incorrectly. This email is to notify you of cancellation of your booking and to advise no funds will be deducted from your account."
However, speaking on RTE Radio today, Dermot Jewell of the Consumers Association said that customers had a binding contract with Aer Lingus. "They booked and paid to bind the contract. Realistically Aer Lingus is going to have to do something to abide by the bookings and to help the customers,'" he added.
Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus Director of Corporate Affairssaid that anyone who booked a business class ticket, which usually retails at about €1,775, and got it so cheaply, should know there was a mistake.

"When you are selling seats on the front of the site quite openly for €249, to sell a business class seat for a fiver is a genuine mistake. People are going to know there's something up,"he stated.
Fair point - is there anyone who is infallible?
    Maybe Aer Lingus shareholder Ryanair?

Ryanair today announced that it will give away 100,000 €5 seats (including taxes and charges) for travel in May and June and unlike Aer Lingus’ phantom €5 seats, Ryanair will honour them.
Ryanair said today: "Aer Lingus, the high fares, way worse airline this morning announced that it had ‘accidentally’ sold €5 fares on its website. Still reeling from the shock of having sold a few low fare flights, Aer Lingus contacted passengers and told them it was all a mistake before cancelling the flights! If Irish passengers are looking for the guaranteed lowest fares, there is only one place to find them."
Speaking today, Ryanair’s Peter Sherrard said:"Aer Lingus wouldn’t know a low fare if it jumped up and bit them - they only do high fares and fuel surcharges. On aerlingus.com a low fare is a ‘mistake’, on Ryanair.com - Book your cheap flight, hotels, car rental with ryanair.com, it is guaranteed. Ryanair is today releasing 100,000 €5 seats on its website and will honour every single last one. You won’t find cheaper anywhere else, that’s guaranteed".

ON NEWS OVER HERE, CONSUMER RIGHTS ARE SAYIN THEY WILL HAVE TO HONOUR THEM:)):50:

    Airline honours cheap US flights

Irish airline Aer Lingus has agreed to honour five euro (£4) flights to the US that it mistakenly sold to around 100 customers on its website.

The company originally refused to accept the cut-price bookings on business class flights normally valued at 1,775 euro (£1,433) each way.

But after a wave of bad publicity bosses said they would give customers who booked the seats on Wednesday the chance of flying economy class at the price advertised.
