Keep Steve Clarke out of this thread for * sake. It’s not happening and nor should it.

Steven * Presley. Absolutely surreal :56:

Now that Ange is ruled out, I don't really have one stand out candidate I'm hoping for. I think McKenna, Hayen, Nancy and Knutsen are all interesting prospects, and all could be successful with us. Muscat seems a good manager but there's too much baggage for me, his past would become a hindrance for a lot of fans at the first sign of turbulence, I think we could do without it.

For now am happy to give MON and Maloney the space to get on with it as I think they'll have us purring pretty quickly.

Ffs, that's one heck of a jump, just because I do believe he has some aura and steel about him doesn't mean I have him up there with those names :giggle1:

What confirms to me that he does have some aura and steel in him is the fact that 6 years on he's still getting Scotland results and qualifying for major tournaments, that's without a striker too btw, meaning the team are having to work extra hard for him, look at Sweden with Isak and Gyokores, look at Norway with Haaland and Sorloth, failing badly despite having attacking riches Clarke can only dream of at Scotland, you can't have longevity with a similar group of players for 6 straight years if you've not got some aura and steel about you.

    "gormless faced *"

That's all I ever hear from the Clarke detractors, what a boring, pathetic argument for why you don't rate or want him, because of his demeanor, ridiculous

No one has ever suggested or said that Clarke is expected to play free flowing exciting football every match. I raised the point that the idea that Clarke would drastically change his style managing a more favoured team simply doesn’t stack up. You’re just spouting nonsense to try and support a nonsense suggestion of who should get the Celtic job. Give over.

Clarke has done a decent job at Scotland, but it’s undeniable that it’s got easier and easier to qualify for tournaments (especially the Euros). For context btw, Clarke won one of his five qualifiers for Euro 2020, won neither playoff game and squeezed in the back door via a penalty shootout - hardly an impressive managerial feat. His team had a great start to Euro 2024 qualifying and have by and large been rotten since.

You’ve noted elsewhere that you’re an outsider to Scottish football; so I’ll give you a pass for not really grasping it. Winning ugly is not enough for Celtic and never has or will be.

Look at Strachan for example. He was here four seasons and won the league in three of them. He made the CL last 16 twice. It wasn’t enough because the football was turgid.

His team just handed their title rivals a big boost tonight by getting beat.

His last game as things stand for them would be the 10th of December in the CL and his contract expires at the end of December. Their domestic league ends on the 30th of November.

I actually do wonder how he will do at his next club as it is a pretty unique set of circumstances he has up there in the article circle but he does seem to be strong on the mentality side of the game. Again though he is more the head coach with a Director of Football, but given that clause about a cut of profit on player sales it would suggest he is involved in the recruitment in someway.

I also think we may be trying to go down the data route with Tisdale but Rodgers has history for falling out with data lead recruitment at Liverpool.

No checking bother. I’d take just winning qualifying right now.

Clarkes a definite non starter though

The only thing pathetic and ridiculous is even thinking managing Scotland is in the same level of difficulty as managing one of the biggest clubs in the world with demands on them that even a draw is a catastrophic scenario which is then dissected for days upon end by a whole country.

    Stick to football manager.

I just dont think this board are right now looking to bring in a new manager, given the current uncertainty in the board room. They are content to run with MON and SM till Jan and then try, half arsed, for Knutsen. But reckon his stock has risen too high for Celtic and he will be head hunted by a more ambitious club. In that case, they will run with the 2 boys till end of season, MON will then demand players in Jan to make a push on for the title. And if they do manage to win title, then they will be offered long term deals.

Why tf do you keep putting words in my mouth and making * up?

Show me once where I've said managing Scotland and Celtic is of equal pressure?

First you accuse me of saying Clarke is up there with Clough, MON, Ferguson, Stein etc and now this, if you're going to respond, do it with things I've actually said.

MON came from Leicester to here, Strachan from Southampton, Mowbray from West Brom, Lennon from zero prior first team management experience, Ronny from Stromsgodset, Brendan from Liverpool, Ange from Yokohama Marinos

Besides Brendan going from Liverpool to here, you could argue going from Scotland to Celtic is far less of a jump in pressure compared to the rest of the managers previous destinations I've just listed, so your theory on Clarke being unable to handle being Celtic manager due to that is full of holes when you look at since the millennium where most of our managers have came from before joining us

How come Bodo haven't renewed his contract? That's a genuine Q. You think they'd wanna.get himself signed up as he's done brilliantly.

Honestly if I hear aura and steel one more time.

Rodgers doesn’t even have aura or steel.

I’d take Frank Magnet and Tony Steel over Clarke any day.

You’re missing a word there: dirty ‘hun’ *. Personally, I’ll be * disgusted if it’s him but I’d also be absolutely astonished that the board (as bad as they are) would hire an ex-hun to manage our club, moreover when he was a ball-hair away from taking over a Ibrox only a few weeks back.
