Tobi Oluwayemi

Dunfermline Athletic are finally set to land Tobi Oluwayemi.

The Pars have been trailing the Celtic keeper for several weeks and they are now close to agreeing a loan deal to take him to East End Park.

The 21-year-old is keen to go out and get games and James McPake has targeted the youngster to battle it out with Deniz Mehmet.

Oluwayemi has had previous loans at Admira Wacker and Cork

 

He had a rotten time with injuries while he was on loan with Admira Wacker last season.

Hopefully this spell goes better for him in terms of fitness, and as far as GK's and defenders go, I am more than happy to see them going to clubs, not just where they will get games into them, but games where they will be busy and forced to be involved in the action a lot, and it ultimately will test them and potentially make them better because of it, if they can distinguish themselves through their efforts.

 

Good move for him.

 

Watched some of the Fife derby on the iPlayer tonight (Raith are my local team since I moved backed down from Orkney).
Thought Tobi had a pretty good game, to the extent that I hope we’re being serious about a pathway for him. Be a bit of a waste to just send him on a few of these “decent loan moves”, and then bin him regardless. We do that far too often with young guys.

Rovers had a man sent off early on, but they still carried a bit of threat, and the young fella showed good skills at coming out in that sweeper-keeper style, and just generally had good presence behind what looked like not the most confident defence.

I know we have Josh Clarke, who is just a year younger and very highly rated, but however many loans it takes, I think we should try to get this guy on a meaningful conveyor belt to at least compete with Clarke to be the clear number 2/eventual successor to Sinisalo (presuming it works out that he becomes our number 1).

 

Starts for Kilmarnock tonight against Aberdeen having joined them on an emergency loan last week
