Used to be 2 I'm sure. Not sure if the bowling club sold booze as well. 3 places to get drink in a village of about 1000 people, or 3 families.

Never bought into it - tastes the same to me - ended up telling every bar tender to pour it straight to the top as I got fed up standing at the bar like a *.

Theres always been all sorts of marketing when it comes to Guinness.

There was Guinness extra cold. Punters used to swear it was much better than the original Guinness. You dont see it now

You also had red Guinness at one point, which I never tried but have heard its good.

Off topic but Beamish was always faaar superior for me. Effing loved a Beamish but then Heineken bought it out and removed it from the UK market the sods.

Years ago, I was in the Concorde pub in Dublin (it even featured in the fun Irish film I went Down) and they had loads of 3/4 pints of Guinness lined up on the counter, so they could quickly top them up - anyway I ordered a Beamish lol (the only bloke in the whole pub ordering a Beamish) and I stood at the bar looking like a right plonker for around ten minutes. Think I ordered Guinness for the rest of the night!

    My faves were:

    1. Beamish
    2. Guinness
    3. Murphys (kind of ok but nothing great)

Would be hard to employ people in Dublin then!

Was over in Cork for St. Patrick’s Day and was on Guinness for the two days I was there. Great pint to be honest. Watched the game against Hibs in the Friars Walk and they sold Guinness, Beamish and Murphy’s. Didn’t venture away from Guinness though.

The original name of it was something like "Arthur Guinness's dark Protestant ale"

That Arthur Guinness was a big dirty bigot *.

    Absolute nonsense.

Extra Cold is by far more popular than original now.

Aye, it's definitely more popular - in fact, only the older clientele are the ones who generally ask for a "normal" Guinness.

Blindboy did a great podcast on the history of Guinness, how it was associated with the Protestant Ascendency, and how through time it became a very strong symbol of Irish culture and identity.

    Just can't get enough
I've heard it was called "Guinness Protestant Porter"

Porter being the generic name for dark beers similar to stout

Arthur Guinness or the head of the Guinness family disliked the men of 1916. He even funded the uvf at the time. As for Guinness, it's actually an English drink made in Ireland but it's been here thst long, it's now classed as Irish. When the provisionals where blowing all around them, they where actually looking to move out of Ireland to a new location because they seen this as a threat to the growth of their business.

With thst said, it's what I drink. Been drinking it since about 2006. Before thst, I don't know how anyone could drink it because it was rotten to me untill one Sunday out with my da. Me and him used to go out on Sundays to watch the Celtic games and everytime we got our first pints, I always dipped my finger in the head, taste it and say to my da he's * disgusting drinking thst * because it was rotten. That was untill I had the worst hangover one day. I was always dying from the day/night before skulling pints of Budweiser all day and just couldn't look at another bud so my da said just try the Guinness ffs. From thst first pint when hungover, I haven't drunk a pint of beer since. It's always Guinness. Though after about 8-10 I have to go on the cider because it's just to heavy. After the cider it's jd and coke. But, ya can't beat a properly poured nice pint of Guinness. * beautiful it is!

Worst ever thou I've had happened to be in Glasgow near parkhead. First ones in thst day before Huns game or even think it was the real Madrid match. Wasn't thinking and stupidly asked for a Guinness when getting a round. Pub hadn't been opened in two weeks ffs. Pipes probably not cleaned and the aul doll behind the bar poured it in one. Sitting down, two drinks of it and it was * manking! Soon as it hit my stomach I felt the * coming and had to * off up to the mates house for a *! Never again will I touch the stuff in Glasgow or anywhere other than Ireland. It's supposed to not travel well either. Although the venoms sure made up for the bad pint. Rocket fuel it is.
