The Ukranian football expert said Hacksaw was decent but this guy would be even better.

    Oh well.

I was still prepared to give him a chance during the second half of the season.

The reactive nature of how we do things is a breath of fresh air under Ange. Shows he appears to have complete autonomy over his squad, in recent days past he'd have been told to squeeze him in and play him you aren't getting anyone else

Reports that Celtic are ready to terminate the loan of Oliver Abildgaard have been dismissed as nothing more than “gossip”, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal.

There has been no contact between Celtic and Rubin Kazan over the Denmark midfielder’s loan being terminated, despite the 26-year-old having limited opportunities with the Scottish Premiership leaders.

Abildgaard was signed in the summer with the understanding that he did not have a full pre-season behind him. The result of this was that he managed just 156 minutes of football across all competitions prior to the World Cup break.

Russian reports suggest Celtic want to terminate the deal but a source close to the case has told FootballTransfers that this is simply “gossip”.

It is expected that he will be up to speed for the second half of the campaign. Indeed, this was hinted at by Hoops manager Ange Postecoglou during Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Hibernian, in which the player made the bench.

Celtic have a loan deal until the end of the season for the midfield enforcer, with an option to buy, though there has been little evidence thus far that this will be taken up.

Abildgaard's deal with Rubin Kazan, meanwhile, expires at the end of June 2024, and while there is open dialogue between Celtic and the Russian side, there is no suggestion that he will be leaving Glasgow before the close of the January transfer window.

I'm a bit reluctant to write a player off after half a season and so few minutes, this time last year there were some on here wanted GG punted as worthless and now there's complaining he's right to want a move because he's not getting enough minutes. That said, the arrival of Iwata on a permanent deal probably does point to him not being here long term, unless he pushes on massively in the second half of the season.

Either way, he's a short term deal that won't have cost us much, worth the punt.

Got to feel for @Mr Shelby in all of this. Took pelters for the first 20 pages of the thread and it'll be binned before seasons end.

Celtic midfielder Oliver Abildgaard is reportedly attracting transfer interest from clubs across Europe and the US, according to reports in his homeland.

The 26-year-old joined Ange Postecoglou’s squad on the final day of last summer’s transfer window, and supporters were hoping he would add quality to a much-needed area.

However, we are now in 2023, and the Danish international is still yet to make his first competitive start for the Hoops, with his nine appearances coming off the bench.

Although Postecoglou hinted that there would be more to come from Abildgaard after building up his fitness in the spring, the midfielder has failed for regular minutes in the side.

Reports last week suggested that Abildagaard’s loan at Parkhead could be cut short. But those rumours were dismissed, and he has since returned to the Celtic bench.

That being said, he is still yet to feature since the World Cup break, and the signing of Tomoki Iwata from the J-League raised more questions regarding his future

According to reports from his homeland in Denmark, Abildgaard is attracting plenty of transfer interest from countries such as Germany, Italy, Turkey and the United States [B.T.]

Several Danish Superliga clubs are also believed to have sent enquiries regarding the midfielder’s availability. However, it has been reported that he is not looking to play in Denmark at this time.

With Abildgaard’s complicated contract, both the player and Celtic would need to come to an agreement to terminate his year-long deal if the midfielder was to make a move elsewhere in the January window.

It has been disappointing to see how Abildgaard’s stay in Glasgow has turned out after arriving at the club with plenty of promise.

But he has ultimately failed to make an impact on Ange Postecoglou’s squad, and the most telling sign was Matt O’Riley filling in the deeper role during Callum McGregor’s absence.

The best move for all parties at this stage would likely be terminating the midfielder’s deal and allowing him to find a new club, to play regular football once again.

It will have been a difficult few years for the Danish international after all the troubles in Russia impacting his football. So, he will be keen to be playing as much as possible.

If reports are to be believed, there is plenty of interest in the Celtic man and clubs may be lining up a move over the coming weeks.

It will certainly be interesting to see where this one goes and whether Abildgaard will still be at Paradise come to the end of the winter window.

DANISH side AaB are keen on ending Celtic misfit Oliver Abildgaard's spell in Glasgow by trying to tempt him into a move home to his first club.

The Hoops snapped up the 26-year-old on a season-long loan from Russian club Rubin Kazan in September and became the third player to sign from there after Carl Starfelt and Sead Haksabanovic moved to Glasgow.

However, he's yet to make any kind of impact and has failed to even start a game for Ange Postecoglou in any competition - he's come off the bench on six occasions in the league and he also came on in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in Celtic's heavy defeat in the Champions League.

But he hasn't featured since coming on for the final ten minutes in a 2-1 win at Fir Park at the start of last month, although he was an unused sub against Rangers at Ibrox this week.

Reports in Russia suggested Celtic would be prepared to cut short his loan deal and send him back to Rubin Kazan, who are keen to either loan him out again or sell him.

And Aalborg outfit AaB have made enquiries about whether Abildgaard would be interested in a return to his former club in Denmark, where he spent five years before moving to Russia.

However, Abildgaard is believed to be keen to explore all his options before committing to a move back to his homeland

Feel for him a bit best just to get him out now

Celtic loan star Oliver Abildgaard’s agent has revealed that efforts are on their way to find a new club for the player in the ongoing transfer window and dubbed his situation at Parkhead “unsustainable”.

Abildgaard joined Celtic on loan on deadline day last summer from Rubin Kazan but he has been a peripheral figure in the first half of the season.

He has made just nine appearances for Celtic and it appears that his stint at the Scottish giants may well end this month.

The midfielder cannot go back to Russia due to the geopolitical situation, but Christian Henriksen, his agent, claimed that they are trying to find a new club for Abildgaard.

He admitted that the last few months have been helpful to build Abildgaard’s fitness back and now he wants a new club where he can play regularly until the summer.

Henriksen told Danish out bold.dk: “Due to an injury and the situation in Russia, Oliver had not trained with a club before he joined Celtic at the beginning of September.

“Now we have spent these four months getting him back to top form.

He is at the top of all physical tests at Celtic, so we know he is totally fit and now we must find a place for him to play until the summer because he has to get playing time.

“It is the most important thing.”

He dubbed his situation at Celtic “unsustainable”.

“Everyone knows that it is unsustainable when you don’t play, so we are looking at what will happen next.

“We must of course find a solution in this window.”

Celtic may well be unlikely to stand in his way given how little he has played this season since joining the club.

Feel sad when seeing signings not quite work for us...even if they may or may not been done under Ange.

Thought he'd at least offer more rotation but it ain't worked.

If that move comes about its still a good level if he can get himself game time

    Good news..

Didn't fit us whatsoever and showed nothing positive really to our play. Looked really uncomfortable in our system in his fleeting appearances actually..

    All the best..
