Oh Hyeon-gyu has been forced to deny claims he received a bumper six-figure gift from Tottenham superstar Son Heung-min.

The incoming Celtic signing was dubbed South Korea's "most important player" by his international captain after sacrificing his place at the recent World Cup. Oh was initially called up for Korea's squad, but one player had to be given up for Son to be subbed in after the Spurs attacker made a late recovery from a fractured eye socket



Oh dropped out of the 26-man squad to make way for Son, who personally thanked the Suwon Samsung Bluewings striker. However, Oh has refuted suggestions he banked Son's £150k World Cup bonus as compensation




He said: "Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to Son Heung-min for the kind words he said about me during the World Cup. They meant a lot to me.

"I read the stories about him giving me his bonus at his own expense. It's true that he took good care of me, but he certainly never personally give me any money. All the stories were lies."




Oh - who is expected to complete his move to Parkhead this week - still travelled to Qatar and trained with the squad as Korea reached the knockout stages before crashing out to Brazil.


At the time, Son said: "I am only at the World Cup because Oh sacrificed his place in the squad for me.




What I want to say to him is thank you so much. Even though he is a young player, he decided to try and help the team. Although he wasn't in the final roster, he was the most important player in the squad in my eyes

See the Scottish media like to leave a lot out the guy was in the squad and was the 27th player for them.

 

Thought what they said was pretty accurate there was no such thing as a 27th man was it not just 26? He was in the 26 and dropped out for Son but he stayed with the camp the full time and trained with them but when the tournament started he could never have played.

The more you read about him the more exciting he sounds..
