Use Drambuie as a mixer and you get to call it a Rusty nail, thank me later, but the hangover is tough going tbh.

I think there’s a lot of pish talked about wine, whiskey, lager and beer in general. Oh yes you can sense a taste of nettle and a scent of the mahogany barrel. Can you *! Pretentious pish.

Last time I drank whisky I woke up in baird Street, and not the baird you want to want to wake up in.

However you want it. Far too much snobbery around it.

Admittedly, I'm a whiskey fan... more of Canadian and Bourbon varieties than Irish or Scotch... which is ironic given how long have live here in Scotland. But truth be told, had an unfortnate experience with a bottle of Johnnie Walker as a teen and all these many, many years later even the smell of it bring back those memories and I just can't. Irish, i possibly prefer, but have neve tasted an Irish and gone, "woah, that is awesome", kinda thing. Have always liked my bourbons though, but Canadians are what am exploring more of, more recently.

On ice is my preferred. Not just because of the chill it brings, but the tiny sliver of water from the melted ice is just the little edge that I like.

Am not super pretentious about tasting notes of this or that, maybe 'developing my palate' is the preferred way of putting it, although there are some that do stand out. But can definitely descriminate between mouthfeel, some taste notes and most importantly the finish, and it's that which I tend to prefer when assessing whiskies.

Current favs are Pike Creek 10yr, Wisers 15yr & 18yr as well as Signal Hill. Also curremtly holding off the urge to drain the last of the Eagle Rare 10yr bottle, after smashing like 3/4 of the bottle when opened it the other night... way, way, wayyyy too easy going down, lol

Can call it snobbery but I think putting something like coke or Irn Bru in a malt whisky is more like stupidity. That Haig Club advert, for the Beckham whisky, the glass is right up to the top with what looks like cola. That stuff retails about 40/50 quid a litre. Why no just use some * paint stripper type vodka or something instead if you're gonna ruin it. Can understand differences in preference regarding no water/ice/amount etc but no diluting it with coca cola.

That Haig advert talks about the 'rules' regarding whisky, saying 'but you know what they say about rules?'.

    Aye, they're there for a * reason.

I get the appeal of single malts as a concept, but it is also very much varied, depending on which, so saying a universal umbrella that covers all single malts, I don't really get. And that can be Scotch, Irish, Bourbon or whatever. Even amonst single malts... is it a rye, a corn, a barley, or blend of these? Again, I know am not the biggest Scotch fan, but some have been fine with and some have been, "that is not for me", so it's hard to just say universally agree. Personally, am not as keen on single ryes, no matter what the distillation and maturation process.

But then again, that is the same with blends for what it's worth also, so what do I know? lol

Would love to have a pint with you some time mate, talk this, movies and whatever other bollocks comes up, lol.
