“I played hockey competitively in the winter and then soccer in the summer, and I was always known as a guy who loved to bodycheck and to hit guys. I’ve always loved the feeling of just laying someone out, as crazy as that sounds, and I just brought that attitude into soccer. I love a good tackle to this day. Canada right-back Alistair Johnston has expressed his gratitude at being linked with Celtic.

The 24-year-old, who featured during his country’s 1-0 defeat to Belgium, did not shy away from talking about how proud he was mentioned alongside the Parkhead club.

He said: "To be linked with a club like Celtic is something all young footballers would be excited by.

"It is one of the most passionate fan bases in the world if not the most passionate fan base.

"It is a club that even people who do not follow football know who they are.


It’s an honour. Just being linked with them, my phone’s been blowing up.

“It nearly put my phone out of commission, halfway through a World Cup.”

The defender currently plays in Major League Soccer for CF Montréal and has scored four goals in 39 games during the season that has just finished.

The right-back coming into the club could spell the end for Josip Juranovic, according to Hoops hero Peter Grant.

Both men are in the same World Cup group and will come up against each other in the next group stage match.


While they could be teammates soon, the Parkhead hero feels the Croat's time at the Scottish champions could be coming to an end.

Speaking on Go Radio, he said: "It's interesting as I thought he did very well the other evening ( Johnston v Belgium) like the whole Canada team did.

"It's interesting as you have Juranovic and Anthony Ralston there.

I don't think young Tony has ever let himself down since Postecoglou has come in, while Juranovic has done very well.

"But obviously there must be talk of Juranovic either going in this window or in the summer time.

"It's probably the preparation the manager is doing at this moment in time.

He's maybe spoken to Juranovic about these things, whether he's going to leave, whether Celtic are going to get good money for him.

"They'll maybe be thinking it's one in and one out."

I actually thought he looked a bit more like Ralston. Really strong and aggressive, good delivery and bombs up and down. Only better defensively.

I think of Jura's best qualities as his speed and ball retention. Great technique too except when it comes to crossing, which is what really lets him down.

 

Love that. Seems a really good sort and we probably need that if he's replacing Jura who is a brilliant character in the dressing room by all accounts.

 

Know * all about him, but in Ange we trust.

If he's at the world cup and Ange wants him, I trust he's scouted him like * and he should fit the style.

Happy days and bring him home.

Sorry, but I look at this boy and all I see is Monty Burns floating out of a forest chiming "I bring you love".

Apparently we've been scouting him for a good few months. We've obviously decided to pull the trigger before his value climbs any more, as he's having a good WC.

Jura not even away yet. Replacement in talk already.

I * LOVE how Ange has transformed this club.

 

Judging on the one game I’ve seen him, that we all probably watched, he seems very similar to Ralston. An athlete, hard worker, hard tackler, dangerous final ball.

For the price and a good option at right back, aye I’ll be happy with that, but I like having different options. Like Jura and Ralston just now, or Taylor and Bernabei.

But I’ll be happy with it regardless just for the pro-active nature that we’re getting him on board.

 

If we can confirm his stance on smashing goths and squeaky voiced scouse shitebags then I'm okay with this.

Ange is all over this isn't he. He never stops.

 

Seems like a tough *, like that. We've been too soft, particularly in Europe, so always helps to have a nutcase in the team who goes through a man when needed.
