Game time is what Ralston needed most which this guy already has.

The biggest change Ange did for Ralston was the inverted role, which does play to his strengths. That's the bit that will be interesting with Johnston as I assume he'll need to adapt his game. Not seen him yet, any indication from this that have how that will go?

CF Montreal is about to complete the transfer of Canadian international Alistair Johnston to Scottish club Celtic Glasgow.

Glasgow's interest in Johnston, first reported by European media, was confirmed to La Presse . If there are no unforeseen events, the transaction will be officially announced in the next few days.

Celtic officials have been evaluating the 24-year-old defender for several months. The club knew that Johnston wanted to try his luck in Europe. His style of play suits the Scottish Championship well. Celtic is an all the more interesting option for Johnston as the club currently occupies first place in Scotland and is still well positioned to qualify for major European tournaments.

Alistair Johnston is the holder in this World Cup with the Canadian team. He played the first game on Wednesday against the Belgians. In 33 MLS games this season in Montreal, he scored 4 goals and had 5 assists.

Only seen him play that one game to be fair, but he was up against a top class team and looked excellent.

It's a yes from me. Just shows there was something going on with Juranovic right enough.

Probably been our weakest player this season.

Good stuff. Always helps when the players buzzing to get in the door..

Watching the videos it's good to see that he assists from good balls in to the box and even takes the occasional corner....which points towards him being good technically...and no just a one off last night..

The rest of him looks good. Mobile. Attacking. Good recovery type challenges. Solid as *. Can fill in a couple of positions. Decent heigh as well..

Maybe we'll get him to bed in and Juranovic may go in the summer?

Don't think he's as quick or slick as Jura but he's stronger and more combative and has a better final ball.

Can fill in at centre back aswell...

Aye Juranovic was a winger in his early years due to how rapid he was..

No many right back's will be as quick as him for our level. This boy looks quick though, just no as quick and slick as you say..

And they're up against Croatia next? Be amazing to see our current RB and our future RB going head to head at the World Cup.

    Good point.

If he signs (which tbh seems like a foregone conclusion) I think you'll really take to him though. Can't see many in the league winning the physical battles against him. He's solid...

Actually really excited about this one..

He's that aggressive that it puts wingers and forwards off even challenging. I like ones like that. They're fearful of getting hurt so shy away, otherwise he'll take ball and man..

Probably pick up a lot of bookings though :giggle1:

Johnston looks a very good signing. Strong, combative and a good height too. He can get up and down the flanks all day long too. I'm liking this one.

Looks like Ange is set on adding a bit of steel and height to the team, which can only be a good thing.

He's a completely different type of full back from Tierney stylistically tbf but both can drop into a back 3 and I think that's where the comparison would end.

I like that Johnston is pretty versatile though. Seems to move into the middle of the pitch alot for Montreal (and did a bit of it against Belgium) so it shouldn't take him long to get used to our system. Just the pace we play at and teams putting 10 men behind the ball.

Nothing is guaranteed in football but imo i'm starting to think this could be a fantastic signing...
