Mohamed Magdy Afsha, the star of the first football team at Al-Ahly Club , received an offer from a European club during the upcoming winter transfer period.

A source inside the Red Castle confirmed that Afsha had received an offer from the Scottish club Celtic to obtain his signature on loan with the intention of final purchase.




And the source continued: Celtic tried to sign the player last summer, but there was adherence to his services, especially since he is one of the basic elements.

I call complete BS on this. Dredging up a 3yr old rumour is an easy way to use Celtic's name to help raise the guy's profile ahead of January because of so-called prior interest.

Al-Ahly have handed Celtic a major boost in their reported pursuit of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed "Afsha" Magdy - with the club reversing their hands off warning and naming their price.

The Egyptian side accepted a £300,000 bid for him in August from a Turkish side but his form since then has seen his value increase more than ten-fold. The Cairo club's manager Marcel Koller insisted last week the player was not for sale under any circumstances and that appeared to be that for Ange Postecoglouand Celtic, who have reportedly been tracking him since 2020 and were recently claimed to have rekindled their interest.

The 26-year-old, an Egypt teammate of Liverpool 's Mo Salah, is tipped to become their next big import to European footballafter impressive recent performances and boss Koller is desperate to keep him. But his claim that he won't be sold at any price has been walked back after a meeting at board level.



Club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib and Al-Ahly's staff they have now announced he can leave if someone meets their asking price of $5million (£4.15m).

The club stated: "Following a meeting between the president and the football sector planning committee, it was agreed Afsha will not be sold for less than 5 million dollars. We believe it is a very appropriate amount for the player’s capabilities and also for the price of the transfer market at the present time and his agent was informed of Al-Ahly’s conditions.

This was done with the blessing of the technical staff and manager Marcel Koller."



Al-Ahly accepted a £300,000 offer for the player in August from Turkish side Sivasspor, but the deal collapsed. And it appears his market value has considerably increased since then.

Watched clips of him and he looks something else. Got the wow factor about his passing/vision and ability to skip by his man..

 

The article he has done quotes the players agent. So if he is just using our name to drum up interest then that won’t change anything as to whether our interest is genuine or not.

I was very impressed by his weight of pass and ability to spot one that’s on so quickly for the clips of him. He also looked quite tenacious and busy for a playmaker despite being quite small.

Afsha would provide another attacking option for Celts and a proven track record.



He has 19 goals in 86 appearances for Al Ahly since 2019 having helped them towards seven trophies during that spell.
