Feels an odd thing to say seen as we won 6-1 but the team is lacking a bit of oomph atm. Hibs playing so open made things easy for us and thankfully the boys remembered how to finish (giving them all a much needed confidence boost) but even the goal celebrations were muted. You can tell they are deflated from the European games. Cals passion and how infectious it is and how much it drives the team on and lifts them might be his most underrated quality.

(Wee Greg playing might have given things a boost in Cals absence mind.)

Callum McGregor is ahead of schedule in his projected comeback from injury.

The Celtic skipper won’t be back in action until after the World Cup break but according to Ange Postecoglou’ he is pushing every boundary.

McGregor seemed to pick up a knock as he conceded possession away to RB Leipzig on October 5 but still managed to chase back almost 80 yards to get a block in.

After receiving treatment he played on for a few minutes then indicated that he had to come off.

With his record of regularly playing 60 plus matches per season for club and country It seemed ominous when McGregor signalled that he had to come off before half-time.

After being pictured wearing a knee brace there was lots of uninformed speculation about how long the Celtic captain would be out of action but with no surgery required he is expected to return following the World Cup break

He is a constant presence, he is always around the dressing room. Yeah, the recovery is going well, we won’t see him before the break but Callum being Callum he is pushing every boundary, he is ahead of schedule which is no surprise to us. Speaking to him he is in a pretty good space, he’s really pleased with the way that it is going.

I think that he realises that when we come back there is still a fair bit of the season to go, the most important part of the season and he wants to be a big contributor to that.

Aaron Mooy has been more involved since McGregor was injured with Matt O’Riley getting some time as a more defensive midfielder.

Within a fortnight of the resumption of the SPFL season Celtic face trips to Pittodrie, Easter Road and Ibrox where the know-how and experience of McGregor will be very welcome in the title race.

What a captain we have. No doubt if it was up to Cal he would be back before the break, Ange is right not to risk rushing it though. Especially with Scotland having friendlies coming up because you just know Clarke would call him up and play him for the full 90.

    Edit

Was watching some highlight videos from last season and what a loss big Bitton is for us. The way we were able to play against Hearts in January with him stepping in for Cal without comprising how we play, it was far more seemless than what we have seen so far in his absence this season.

Long time lurker, first time poster.. I ran into McGregor and Taylor this morning. He won't be playing, but will be training with the team. Both absolute gentlemen, buzzing for the games!

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has revealed he is aiming to take part in training with his team-mates Down Under as he steps up his return bid from injury.

The 29-year-old hasn't played since suffering a knee injury against RB Leipzig in October but initial fears over a potential season-ending injury were allayed after a scan. And now McGregor is using the trip to Australia for the Sydney Super Cup to strengthen his comeback before the Scottish Premiership on December 17 against Aberdeen.

And McGregor can't wait to be out there with his team-mates again. Speaking to Celtic TV, he said: "Hopefully I will be joining bits of the sessions this week and just progressing the rehab. It will be an important five, six days for me as well. I am looking forward to getting back on the grass with the boys." Celtic face Sydney and Everton in the coming days and McGregor is adamant the Premiership champions will be giving it everything as Ange Postecoglou returns home and punters in Australia get the chance to see their heroes up close and personal.

He added: "More of the same, we understand the way we want to play. I'm sure the gaffer will be keen for us to put on a good show coming back to his home country. He will be putting pressure on the lads to make sure they are performing well. Good football, good intensity and want to have two victories as well.

"These guys get up in the middle of the night to watch the games and this is an opportunity to see us live and it's important we don't disappoint. We show them the best of ourselves and put on a good show for them

With us being out of Europe and having a healthy lead in the league there is absolutely no need at all to rush him back in, what a boost it’ll be to have him back though.

    Great news..

He's effectively getting a full pre season in him now and with the full squad.....whereas a couple of weeks ago we'd be having a lot of recovery day's in-between a hectic schedule..

An enormous boost for when we return..

That's great news, wouldn't want to risk him in these games anyway but good he's back training, get these games done, a short break for everyone then off to portugal for a decent weather training camp, everyone should be in really good nick when we restart.

Can't wait for him to be back but happy to if it means us not rushing and risking another injury or set back in these games.

We got by without him but had few comfortable wins and anyone who thinks we played close to our best without him in the pivot is kidding themselves.

But there is also an eye on the return to competitive football after the World Cup – and he revealed a major boost with McGregor set to resume full training. Postecoglou said: “If I said to him to go out for a run tomorrow, he’d be right out there. We’re keeping a firm hold on him.

“But he’s flying. The plan is he’ll train this week and keep working over the week off and when get to Portugal he’ll be fine to go again. Are welooking at the first game back? Absolutely.

    "he's flying" :ange2:

That's what we want to hear. This 'break' might actually have been a blessing in disguise for him/us as he's barely had many for a good while and very rarely ever subbed off/left out..

Probably gone under the radar a bit too much how well we've down without him. Captain and most influential player, and we've been pretty much perfect domestically and desperately unlucky not to pick up a win in the CL.

If only Cal and Jota had been fit for the Leipzig and Shakhtar home games...

We haven't been perfect domestically. We have been lucky not to drop points while playing for from our best football. 3 matches won by us scoring late winners. Great attitude and mindset has got us through but he can't come back quick enough for me.

I just meant in terms of points, mate. Obviously performances haven't been the best, and to be honest if you're talking in terms of performance there's no such a thing as perfect (or at least Ange wouldn't say so).
