I'm not from Scotland but my father's side of the family are Glencoe McDonalds so I have a deep and abiding interest in the place.

Whenever I meet Scots (and there are heaps in Oz) I often ask: what is it you most miss about the Old Country? Chap in my O45s football team (massive Celt) said recently: "For the first ten years it was friends, family and Celtic. For the next ten it was family and Celtic. Now it's just Celtic."

So I started wondering, for those on here who are ex-pats, what do you miss?

For those still breathing the air of Alba, what would you miss if destiny led you astray?

The only thing I would miss if I left Scotland is some friends or family. To be honest I’m not a materialistic person and tradition and heritage don’t mean much to me.

I grew up in Oz and got a load of family from over there, it’s always been Celtic, the patter and family.

    Usually in that order.

Lived out of the country for about a decade now. Miss...

    - Family/friends
    - The food
    - The football

I would say I miss some of the countryside too but the weather is usually too * to enjoy it fully.

Nothing else really. When I lived in England I only really missed my family/friends. The food really isn't that different and I could travel up at the weekend for the football.
