Soon as he got his foot into some early tackles at start of the match I felt at ease with our CBs.

They just seemed to know for the most part where to be and intercepted so well.

Was Jenz who also just stonewalled and body checked a Madrid player and got the ball of them as the guy was trying to run through our defence?

Honestly...on his showing last night. CVV and Jenz needs to stay as our CB pairing.

Get him * signed as well

From where I sit it looked like CCV had a good opportunity to wipe Valverde out on the touch line before he crossed the ball in for their first. Defo agree that we need to get more street wise with tactical fouls. We only received 1 booking last night.

I feel so much more assured with him than I do with Starfelt

Got caught a couple of time's....that one for his booking when turned and then pulled....really poor for a centre back. Another time he looked slow getting back in..

I do like him though. His passing out from the back with either foot's outstanding..

If he was the finished article he wouldn't be playing for us, his game will improve, this is good experience at this level.

    Agreed.

You can already see improvements in him though. The biggest element is that CCV is clearly happier next to him. It’s far less frantic for him having a composed guy next to him who is confident ball at feet.

I like Starfelt a lot but you're spot on there..

They deffo seem to be comfortable with each other and when passing to each other..

Carter-Vickers and Starfelt had some partnership but no doubt about it....at time's it looked shaky playing out from the back and I include Hart in that. The whole defence seems much more at ease on the ball..

I like Carl too - and it’s an embarrassment of riches compared to where we were even a year ago.

You make a really good point re Hart too dude. He too is clearly more comfortable with jenz and ccv in front.

As a fan base we can wax lyrical about our smash approach from first whistle - it’s a shitload easier when at the back there is almost arrogance combined with focus.

It breeds from back to front. Football always has. From there, you have a * of a lot more freedom to shift spots, fluidity of movement, etc moving forward.

The best teams have always known confidently that at the back things are fine.

Every sport, confidence gives an extra 10% minimum throughout the whole team. It’s the game changer.

There are some aspects where he's a bit raw, but he also dominates in other areas. A work in progress and, if he was fit, I'd probably be starting Starfelt, but with Starfelt out until October at the earliest I suspect Jenz will fully make the spot his own.

Welsh will probably get the flak for being weak but thought Jenz got bullied today.

I thought Jentz was far worse to be honest and while Welsh was the last defender for the second I felt Jentz allowed that to happen.

Big man had a stinker the day. So did most of the team.

Starfelt might look clumsy but as an out and out defender, he doesn't mind the gritty sort of games against a lump of a striker. Jenz is a Jullien, classy with the ball, against a decent team like European level but he needs to toughen up when playing hammer chuckers.
