Was manager of the Dortmund side that the Huns beat last season though, so a bit of a mixed bag.

They were class that night, surprised he didn't do more with Dortmund tbh.

Good appointment for Leipzig tho, bad news for us that.

His teams play a lot like Ange's actually. It'll be two cracking ties, still fancy us to come out on top.

Not to sound defeatist, but I'd rather we finished third. Just think with our quality and squad depth, we could go on a good run in the Europa and still cope domestically. Possibly the best chance we'll ever have to do so.

I think we have to win in Poland next week to have a chance of European football after Christmas, whether that's champs league or Europa..

I honestly think we can go there and win. Will be hard but we're more than capable..

If we beat Shakhtar away then we're right in the mix..

    Beat Shakhtar away
    Leipzig at home
Shakhtar at home and we'll have some sort of European football after this group. No easy but should be the target getting around 9 point's..

Typical we get Leipzig with a new manager in though..

We really can get second in this group. We should have been ahead multiple times against Real Madrid. Leipzig and Donetsk are nowhere near Real's level.

I was thinking exactly this after the second and third goals went in yesterday. Sure there is glamour in the CL knockouts but I'm sick of watching elite-tier teams come to Celtic Park and run us ragged

Definitely a must not lose mate.

Madrid will beat them twice in double header so they’ll come out that on 4 if we draw next week… if we win one of the games vs Leipzig we’re level with Shakh heading into CP game and would fancy us.

Not for me. The prize money for getting to the last 16 alone should be reason enough for us trying to get out of the group.

It's 10m euro just for qualifying. With gate receipts and merchandise and sponsorship that's likely another 5m on top. You dont get that in the Europa League. That's the sort of additional funding that helps us bring in guys like CCV and Jota.

Second has to be the main aim.

I can't relate to the attitude of wanting to finish third at all. Second is doable and we've not got out the groups in years, this is a golden opportunity to make progress. It's not just in terms of improving our standard but also with regards to the coefficient. Teams like Leipzig and Donetsk should be well within our reach of beating, we should aim at nothing less than making the knockouts.

Anyone manage to watch the other game yet? Want to know if Shahktar were good or RB just on terrible form?

Get to the last 16, let's be honest unless your first your drawing a big boy. Man City, psg etc. The journeys over then. 3rd then we actually have a real possibility with how good we're getting of going even further than the huns managed. That's the thinking behind it.

It's not as easy as that though. Each side brings its own dangers. We seriously brought our game in that first 50 odd minutes so we need to maintain that for 90 mins in these next 4 games. Regardless of whether these sides are near Real's level.

It would be typical celtic to * it up in the two games against Shakhtar. Nobody seen them going and skudding Leipzig 4-1.

Baffles me when people say they would rather finish 3rd than 2nd. Do you understand the essence of competition? The idea is to do the best you can. I’ve dreamt all my life of seeing Celtic in the Champions League finals. We were a whisker away in 2007 and had another crack at it in 2013. We’ve got a chance here.

Agree. Look at the huns, got a favourable draw and made a final. Get through the group and get a lucky draw and you could end up with a quarter final. That would be bigger than getting to a Europa final. Got to be in it to win it and getting through in 2nd means we’ve gone up levels.

Yeah the Shaktar result certainly throws up some questions.

I wasn't expecting Shaktar to be * poor and get skudded off everyone, but I certainly did not ever consider them battering Leipzig in their own turf 4-1.

Aside from Madrid the battle for 2nd could be insane in our group.
