I'm not sure what game some people watched today but he was no better that McCarthy. So slow & wanted too much time on the ball. I would like to see the freekick he got again as didn't look like one.

The only difference from him & McCarthy is we have seen enough of McCarthy to decide he isn't good enough. Mooy didn't have a pre season so might just be taking time to get up to scratch but we will see.

I think (and hope) it's just nerves and he will come good.

I think it's a big move for him and he's maybe not quite realised what size of club he's got into until now.

    Give him time.

Still not sure what Mooy people are watching here. Again I thought he was slow, took too long on the ball, was sloppy with his passing and then nearly even got caught out if it wasn't for a fortunate foul.

It's clear what his role is here (and it's not to be a big hard c*nt CDM), but I just don't think he's been very good at it so far.

One day, Mooy will play for 40+ minutes.

That day, this thread will have 100 new pages of comments.

His jobs to slow the game down, recycle possession and see the games out. However maybe he's the type of player who needs many full games to get to speed. Thats what was so special about Bitton. Wouldn't play for 6 months but when asked was silky smooth with the ball like a seasoned pro. Not many players can do that. Can he manage it? I'd say not as well as ange hoped hence why were still after another big dmf that can attack. Hard to get, but ange will manage it.

    Playing devils advocate here…

Would be unfair to judge him too much as he’s not had a lot of game time

He hasn’t done anything wrong but this is the slight concern for me. The premier league Mooy I remember carried the ball forward and was capable of the spectacular, a bit of a Tom Rogic player.

I’m not seeing that from him at all. It’s maybe what he’s been asked to do. Come on, move the ball, slow the pace of the game.

It’s still early days but I want subs to come on and impact the game. What he is doing at the moment is what McCarthy done in his cameos last season.

He had a big impact yesterday, we had lost a grip of the midfield before he came on, after we had regained it.

See his role similar to Biton.
To steady the midfield and keep control of the ball with simple passes.
When he came on,he majorly nulified the Hearts resurgence.

How are people * on Mooy he’s been pretty much flawless. Does his job, recycles the ball and doesn’t give it away.

You'd think after the popularity of The Queen's Gambit that people would appreciate the subtle craftiness of someone like Mooy. Football is chess at his level.

I could tell you about some outstanding South Australian shirazes also...

Obviously early days and he should be given more minutes but I am not seeing any evidence that he is an upgrade of Bitton yet.

i am not expecting to play so deep - he looked bored when he came on.
be interesting in the upcoming cup game to see what players will start
the free kick could have been a big moment in the game, thankfully we got a free kick - if they had have scored he would never have won the fans for the rest of the year.

Thought he was good when he came on. Still looks a bit sluggish though, like he needs to hit the gym.

I keep hoping he’ll come on and look really physically sharp and after that he’ll kick on and be a key player this season.

I'm keenly aware of how boring I must sound when talking about Mooy...

Really interesting comments (in bold). You thought he was good but wanted him to look physically sharp and be a key player.

How do these two observations live together? He's already doing well what he always does... hold the ball, strangle the enemy, set up chances if they're needed.

Mooy is an example of how Ange has taken Celtic (strategically) to a new level, but some people don't see that because they wanted a blood and thunder Wanyama/Patrick Vieira type player.

Football has moved on and Ange (thank *) is part of the movement.

That's not to say I wouldn't like to see a Vieira type player at Celtic.

    I would love that.

He’s still looking slow on the turn and on the ball, he’s clearly good enough to get around that and he’ll move and keep a stranglehold on the midfield to subdue the opposition but that bit quicker on the ball and turning he’ll be a weapon going forward as well.

He’s been good in a very specific way so far, again one I’m happy with but think there’s more to come,
