Celtic have agreed to sign Rubin Kazan winger Sead Haksabanovic, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old is undergoing a medical in London today as he puts the finishing touches to a near-£2million move.



Haksabanovic has already settled personal terms with the Scottish giants.




He is seeking a move away due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and has made it clear he is very keen on a move to Parkhead.




Celtic first made a move for the former West Ham youngster earlier this month before negotiations stalled.

Football Insider reported last month (20 July) that Haksabanovic was also a target of Leicester City, Anderlecht, and French duo Stade Reims and Angers.


After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, FIFA gave special permission for foreign players in Russia to suspend their contracts and join another club for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

Haksabanovic returned to Sweden, the country of his birth, scoring twice and providing two assists in 11 games for Djurgarden.

The attacker joined West Ham in August 2017 though he only ended up making two appearances for the club, both of those coming in the domestic cups.

The Hammers loaned him out to Malaga and IFK Norrkoping before he joined Norrkoping on a permanent basis in January 2020.



Celtic have enjoyed a perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season with three wins in their opening three games.

They are next in action against Hearts on Sunday (21 August).

 

Sounds like a great piece of business.

Ange Postecoglou was asked two questions about Sead Haksabanovic at today's press conference.

Here's every word he had to say about the imminent transfer.

You mentioned strengthening squads. Celtic are linked with Haksabanovic this week. What can you tell us about that move and if he is coming to Parkhead?

I think we have been linked with a player every time I have done one of these. If and when we sign a player, we will announce it. As I have said all along, we are active and agile in the market. If the right person comes along and we can do a deal, then we will. At the moment, though, nothing has really changed on that front.

Is a winger/ attacker a priority at the moment?

Again, I have been pretty consistent if you check my press conferences. If we can get a player in a variety of positions, it has just got to be an ideal player. Our recruiting this year has been around, making our squad more robust than last year. If you look at the players have brought in, that is what they have added to the squad. It is not about a specific position as such. If we can find a particular player or a couple who can play a couple of positions then I think it can help us.

St. Peter strikes again

 

I thought players were allowed to break their contracts with Russian clubs. Is there a reason this hasn't been? Is there issues sending money to Russian countries? I think it looks like a steal at under £2m but just curious.

 

Not break, they could suspend them for the season. So if they have longer than that on their contract technically they are still under contract to the Russian club. Unless FIFA extend the suspensions later on.
