For those who are in love.....
Done some of the west coast twice when in my young/mid teens with the family and couldn't agree more..

LA away from the likes of Sunset Boulevard heading out were complete dumps. I remember us driving on the highway and going out the way and there was a train/tram station in the middle of nowhere with nothing to one side and for what seemed like miles on the other side.....a ghetto of trailer parks that you could see stretching all the way off this motorway. Even in the centre full of junkies and weirdo's..

Vegas you come off the main strip and it's a * hole full of dregs in big group's all over the place. Again full of junkies and the strangest weirdo's..

We done a wrong turn going to San Francisco and went in to Oakland by mistake and ended up in the worst ghetto I'd encountered out there. Like something off a film..

Even in to San Francisco it seemed a bit of a seedy type place. Didn't like it there at all. Seemed to be very quiet from early night there as well as if a lot closed early or maybe I'm remembering wrong..

Out of all the places we went to/through. San Diego seemed the best. Clean as anything on the streets. Didn't feel cliquey. Felt more relaxed and easy going..

I hate America in general. Don't think I'll ever go back..

Went down in to Mexico through to Ensenada and for all it gets a bad rep and is a wee bit much the amount of people approaching your motor tryna sell you stuff waiting at the border....the US dumps were much worse..

Must have been on the same cruise mate, we were advised not to go off the ship at Costa Rica unless we where going on an official excursion. Which begs the question, why fecking take you there then?

Columbia was a strange one too, never felt in danger, people where really friendly, but it seemed run down and had a real poor country feel to it.

I get that it’s subjective, but there’s some * terrible shouts in here lads :giggle1:

Big cities all have problems, but places like London, Paris, Barcelona and New York are some of the most desirable places to live/visit on earth for a lot of people. I would be interested to see some of you guys somewhere like Delhi if you think the aforementioned places are tough to handle :giggle1:

The key to any large western city is very simply to have money. The Parisians living in the central district in stunning townhouses while sauntering around the Seine aren’t visiting the ghetto-ised areas on the outskirts of the city any more than the folk living up in Park Circus in Glasgow are visiting Possil.

Saying all that, in terms of places that I disliked the most, I would pick Venice. It’s nowhere near the worst place I’ve been, but it was probably the place where reality fell most short of expectations. Was really looking forward to it and ended up cutting my trip short to fly to Slovenia and spend some time in the mountains.

Paris was absolutely stinking of faeces, rats, sewers and rotten rubbish.

That being said, the foul stench was far more bearable than the ignorant manners of a fair amount of the locals in that cesspit of degenerates…

I've never been to France so is it just general situations where people wont hold the door for you, say excuse me etc for that stereotypical Paris rudeness?

Dortmund, not dirty or anything but looked like a City you'd see in a movie where the place is just left abandoned and deserted like everyone escaped the place the night before as it was about to be hit by an asteroid or something.

Absolutley dead and weirdly small and empty place. You wonder how their football team get 80,000 every week as the City looks like Maryhill.

I generally like the more rough and authentic places. Paris and Philly seem to be mentioned quite a bit, despite all their faults they’re still great places to visit. If we’re talking about shitholes you can’t get any worse than Mumbai but it’s still an amazing place with amazing people. Give me a dirty Mumbai over a clean Dubai any day of the * week.
