Celtic coach John Kennedy has been linked with a shock move to takeover as manager at FC Midtjylland.

According to a discussion on The Transfer Window Podcast from Danish media outlet BT, Kennedy is being ‘investigated’ as a potential option to become the next FC Midtjylland boss following the sacking of Bo Henriksen. The report goes on to claim that Kennedy would be ‘very interested’ in becoming the new head coach of Midtjylland

Kennedy has been part of Celtic's first-team set-up since the summer of 2014, and has been a faithful servant under Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and now Ange Postecoglou but it's not the first time he has been linked with taking a managerial job of his own. The 38-year-old was previously mentioned as a candidate for the Hibs jobearlier this year before his former team-mate Shaun Maloney was appointed at Easter Road and the ex-Scotland international was also in the frame for the Ross County job in the summer of 2021.

Henriksen was given his marching orders by Midtjylland after finishing second in the Danish Superliga last season, and the Copenhagen side currently find themselves eighth in the table with just five points from their opening four games of the new campaign. Their dream of qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League is also hanging by a thread following last week's crushing 4-1 defeat to Benfica in the competition's third qualifying round.

That would be a cracking move for him personally.

I suppose the question is would he really consider it, It's not like he hasn't had opportunities to be his own man before and he never took the leap, granted it's in a foreign country this time, and also might there be a lil disgruntlement since Harry Kewl joined the staff ?
Just seems to me he never wants to leave us...guess we'll find out soon enough.

If he wants to be the main man he needs to leave here at some point. His short time in charge was a joke but players seem to like him.

I don't want to be overly critical as I've probably not been his biggest fan at times.

But if this guy actually has any ambition he needs to leave an go do the big job with someone else.

I know we are all die hards etc...and would all say no to leaving the club whatever our station to go work in the Danish league...but we need people on board with serious winning ambitions for their personal career who are desperately wanting to prove themselves and getting better.

Him sticking around and never taking that jump reeks of someone who's far too comfortable and has no ambitions in bettering themselves and their careers.

No he doesn’t, if his ambition is to give his all to Celtic and be as best a coach as he can possibly be for us.

Being a massive part of Celtic’s success oddly seems to get played down as unambitious on here. * weird man.

I’d be glad to see the back of him. Very much a board man, in the same way Lennon was. The prospect of him eventually taking over is terrifying.

Ange could probably work with anyone to great success, which is why he doesn’t take his own guys to new jobs.

Really hope he stays, given how highly he's thought of by those who have worked with him.

Celtic fans using loyalty to Celtic as a stick to beat somebody with is always odd. McStay and Danny McGrain were also too * to leave this little hellhole of an unambitious * club. Poor guys.

The likes of Ajer weren't really in a position to take him tbh. Suppose that doesn't suit your narrative though. Kennedy also has a say in what jobs he wants to take.

Players don’t usually handle staff recruitment tbh.

Yet they're part of the group of people who think highly of Kennedy.

Wonder if that's why Kewell was brought in knowing that Kennedy wanted to move on!?.
Stayed on the help him settle, who knows.

If Midjitylaand are looking at him it shows how highly he must be thought of.

They put a lot of effort into everything they do as a football club.

Off his own accord, or in response to a media question?

Would remaining at Celtic in a supporting role guarantee a shot at manager one day?!?

I’d be inclined to think that him going elsewhere for further experience for a while …. will be better for him as an individual and more likely to pave the way for a return in the future.

It is different times to the days of McGrain and McStay.

McGrain also atleast attempted coaching outside of the club for a brief time.

Kennedy was part of the team that was involved in the most successful time in modern history but that can only carry him so far and given he's so incredibly highly thought of, you'd think you'd see an impact of him taking full charge, there wasn't any.

Which honestly is probably unfair to put at his feet but literally nothing change when he was in effect the manager running the show, surely for someone held in such a high regard we should be seeing players react and perform better.

But again admittedly the damage Lennon caused can not be under played.

That's great...but how exactly did all these players perform when he was given temporary charge?

Literally nothing changed when he was given the opportunity to head the ship and stamp his identity on the squad and the results to try and put his name in the hat for the gig full time.
