That’s actually a very good shout btw! The uefa cup was far more enjoyable imo when it was like that. Also imo harder to win, if it wasn’t group stages the huns would have been knocked out by Lyon before Christmas. But aye this would have been a good way to have a total knockout tournament again.

 

I do like the trophy, always thought the uefa cup trophy was brilliant, but it does seem a bit lazy as this is so similar.

 

Knockout football is long gone I think with UEFA hence the reason these new tournaments are popping up along with talk of the Super league etc.

 

Aye definitely, it is all about money now and the more games they can ram into the tv schedule with group stages suits the *. Football has been slowly dying for about 15 years. Group stage football is a total farce as we all know, most of the better sides have qualified by match day 5 and the last 2 games are meaningless.

 

To add as well, group stage football is also unfair, if say one team qualify with a game to spare they’ll play a weakened team against a team say battling for 2nd in the group, whilst the other team battling for 2nd in the group played said team top of the group at full strength. Rabbling on there but i’m sure you’ll understand what i mean.

 

Not long until their 36 team tournament where you will play 10 games against 10 different teams. That will be * but there will be lots of big matches in the groups and repeated in the knockouts.

 

* sake what’s this? Haven’t heard this one, thought the super league being scraped was the end of it all?

 

Aye was reading the new format 36 teams for champions league.. 1 group 10 home games 10 away.. Top 8 qualify teams placed 16 24 go into a 2 leg playoff.. Teams finishing below go out altogether no europa league.. Seems set up for the elite teams

5 home 5 away but all against different teams. I don't know where all the games will fit.
Set up for the 3rd place teams to basically stay in Champions league even if they * up like Barca or Dortmund.
Also 36 teams should mean easier to qualify after they made it more difficult giving more automatic qualifying to the big 5,nah.only 2 extra qualifying the other 2 go to teams with highest coefficient but didn't qualify.

 

Same. Still feel like it's one that got away. Think if we had an 'Ange second season' team, we would win this. But if we keep doing our job, we'll rarely if ever compete in it.

 

I'm not sure his refusal to change the system if it's not working will bite us regularly, you seen how we got ripped apart by Bodo when set up to counter our system and that will happen again and again

If Rangers are in the EL groups instead of the CL next season I bet they have a shocker in the groups, end up in this with some favourable draws leading to the final and then this trophy becomes the biggest achievement for a Scottish side in European football history

 

Quite looking forward to that game. Probably get pumped but you never know.

 

AZ Alkmaar 7 players are out for tomorrow according to Football Scotland so a boost for Dundee United I suppose.
