Ok. Cheers. Not what I saw or was told about (Livingston aside) but fair enough.

Back on topic, Johnston getting a loan and game time can make a huge difference to him. Really don't like his preference for staying in Scotland as think somewhere out of the "Celtic" spotlight would help him more.

I know it's the wrong thread but continuing with the Ralston chat, I'm sure he was at St Johnstone and didn't do too great. It just shows what a job Ange is doing to get such performances from him. And obviously huge credit to the boy as well.

Loan would be good. Less pressure and more game time.

Ralston attributes a lot of his development to his 3 loan spells. That's a big part of what put him in a position to help Ange out when he arrived and needed players to buy in and commit to what Ange wanted. Lennon could have benefited too by playing him but he was too out of his depth and scared to consider it.

A loan isn't really about being the best player in the team but developing the player. He did again hold down his place in St Johnston other than when they played a formation that didn't have a RB.

Hopefully Johnston gets a bit of that.

He has to play and prove himself. I'd rather he stayed here and got some games. If he doesn't make an impact this season his time is up with us.

What makes that the better option? He has zero chance of getting in front of Jota or Maeda.

We need squad depth and rotation. There should be game time for more of the squad this season.

Sending him out elsewhere means he comes back next season needing to prove himself here again. He needs to show he is good enough for us now.

The manager sees him in training every day so he already knows if he's good enough or not.

The term 'theres a player in there' is used too often to describe a under performing player who has shown enough in glimpses to have people believe they could be a top player - however going by reports of people who have played with him and have coached him from youth level right through to senior level theres definitely potential for him to become a high quality player yet

His confidence has taken a hit; Ive seen enough from him to suggest he can become a quality player; whether thats at Celtic is a different matter

He needs consistent sustained time on the pitch, both to increase his awareness and decision making, and to build up resilience and see if he can get past his injury problems. He’s not a kid anymore.

He won’t get that sustained playing time here.

Meanwhile, in expecting player “comings and goings” in the last month of the window, he intimated that Mikey Johnston will head out on loan, with the injury-beset winger linked with a move to Standard Liege, where his former Celtic manager Ronny Deila took up the reins last month. “He’s one of the ones I’m keen to get out there and get some games,” Postecoglou said of the 23-year-old. “He’s been really unfortunate with injuries, but this pre-season, he hasn’t missed a session and he’s been great. But he’s at an age where I think he needs a strong season behind him. He’s going to get limited opportunities here, so we are working with Mikey to try and find a solution for that.”

Good news. We'll also get another in if he does go to improve us.

Winger Johnston had looked to be heading to Standard Liege for a reunion with former boss Ronny Deila, having been on the fringes under Postecoglou as the club surged to the Scottish Premiership title with his last competitive appearance coming back in March against Dundee United in a 14 minute cameo. He failed to make the bench for the opening day fixture against Aberdeen with a move to Belgium seemingly imminent.

However, Sudinfo report that the club were waiting for incoming sporting director Fergal Harkin to rubber stamp the deal. He has left his role at Manchester City to join Deila's overhaul in Belgium.

Mikey Johnston is weighing up a number of loan options as he prepares to leave Celtic, writes Mark Hendry.

The winger has been told he's free to spend the season elsewhere, with Ange Postecoglou keen for the 23-year-old to play regular first-team football.

Johnston has endured an injury-plagued few years and is behind the likes of Jota, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and James Forrest in the pecking order.

Former Hoops boss Ronny Deila is believed to be interested in taking the player to Standard Liege, but Johnston is mulling over other options.
