    Another Goodfellas Legend gone.

Unreal with the Mobsters in movies this month

US actor Paul Sorvino, best known for playing Paulie Cicero in the 1990 mobster classic Goodfellas, has died at age 83.

Roger Neal, his publicist, said he died of natural causes at his home in Indiana.

He was a good actor. Check out That Championship Season also (everyone was good in that, Robert Mitchum, Bruce Dern, Martin Sheen)

He implored Martin Scorsese to tone down significantly the character of Paulie Cicero (Paul Vario) in Goodfellas in order for him to play him comfortably.

He couldn't bring himself to get into the role of someone so brutal, so he needed the help of artistic licence.

    R.I.P.

Just watched Goodfellas a couple nights ago as well. They don’t make them like that anymore, such a classic movie.

    Every scene is a masterpiece.

Love a film with narration as well.

Think by all accounts all of the characters in it are actually toned down quite a bit. Even Tommy who comes across as a complete lunatic in the film was apparently much worse in real life.

Best film ever imo, sad to hear this.

Been some year for Sopranos, Goodfellas actors :(

He had quite a big part in Godfather of Harlem as well, but obviously best known for Goodfellas, best film ever made.

There’s no movie that can beat Goodfellas for me. The best thing besides The Sopranos I’ve ever seen and still watch both regularly, almost daily for Sopranos and every other month for Goodfellas :giggle1:

I have bought Goodfellas on VHS/DVD/Blu Ray.....and now 4K UHD......and still when it seems to be on ITV3 every week i still watch it

    :56:

It is easily the best movie ever made for me and by a distance as well.

Yeah, the real Tommy was absolutely unhinged. His moods were completely unpredictable and his temper was explosive. Killing didn't bother him in the slightest, and he took pleasure in it. He was even known to kill people at random.

He was also over six feet tall and built like a brick shithouse, so he was a truly fearsome individual.

Tbh mate most mob guys were back then.

The sheer power the * had in those days they could get away with pretty much anything.

It’s my favourite subject to talk about, read and watch stuff about etc. Just a mad way of life.

The families are still active as well, they just agreed to stop whacking everycunt to go back into the shadows the way they were meant to move. Obviously they don’t have the same political connections but they do still have power in the unions and that. Mental.

    Aye that's true mate..

I love all crime, mafia, gangster type stuff as well. Gets me interested. I've never actually watched a series of the sopranos though :fear:

Seen the odd episode on telly and thought it looked decent but never actually started one and went through. Kinda watched one halfway through and a couple after and * it like that and never went back :giggle1:

Didn't know that. I thought they were all older and pretty much finished and overran by Latino and black gang's who took over. Same with the Irish and other mobs..

The Irish mob in NYC were mainly based out of Hells Kitchen. They were short in numbers but had its fair share of psychopaths which in turn done some work with the Italians down the years. The biggest Irish gang in the States was the Police and Lawmakers. Corruption and control from the very top.
