Let's say Mooy goes well and stays for a second season. Obviously Ange will be looking at a succesor for him in the squad before Mooy eventually leaves at age 33, or brings in a new player he identifies as being able to do the job for him on the pitch before or after Aaron leaves.

O'Riley was obviously brought in and going to succeed Rogic in that midfield spot and Tom saw the writing on the wall. Or maybe something else happened that we do not know about that made him decide to leave.

He seems to be out on a limb football wise since leaving Celtic. He has not found a club and does not choose to receive calls from the Australian coach who wants him in the WC squad for the games later this year.

To be fair Ange was behind the 8-ball from day one when he joined Celtic. He did not have the luxury of time to be able to put together the type of squad and team he wanted, especially in a time of transition. Given the realities of the situation he found himself in he did very well for a person newly arrived. Yes, his experience in Europe came to a halt against the Danes, but Celtic got some good and unexpected results against European opposition playing good football with a side still in its fledgling year.

I do not think it fair to compare Celtic to Rangers last season in European competition.
The Rangers settled squad had been together for far longer last season than the Celtic players.

Anyone who watched the Rangers games in Europe and in Glasgow saw a well drilled side that knew where their players were, played a game where it was quick 1-2s, balls to feet, and not lingering on the ball. Having a tight defence also helped and the fact that Rangers go to counter-attack in the last 15 minutes of a game when the opposition have less chance of pulling back a goal in the last few minutes. Also Lundstrom made a point of brutally tackling an opponent within the first 3 minutes of each game played and continued to wreak havoc with his dark arts. He almost took off the face of the German lad with his studs in the first minutes of the final.

Celtic are not a brutal team and I do not wish them to be. There are other excellent European teams who also win games
without resorting to thuggery or feigning injury or getting dubious free kicks they play for, which seems to be part of the Rangers play book.
