Incredible from Smith, but a real missed opportunity for McIlroy. His putting just hasn't been on it at all today. He'll be raging.

McIlroy could have been 23/24 under on another day. Know that's usually the way with golf but there were so many missed so marginally.

Fair play to Smith though, played great.

If McIlroy has been putting the same as he did yesterday, he would of smashed it.

Fair play to the lad, that was some run of birdies to take the win.

Young holing in two on the 18th to tie the score and add more pressure on the final putt was great as well.

Not sure, it just came up on the screen there. Maybe that's what it meant.

As much as you can criticise McIlroy’s putting I don’t think he hit it close enough either. Wasn’t many “missed” putts. You would still expect him to hole a couple.

Phenomenal from Smith tho and certainly deserves to win with that round.

Definitely cider, the disappointment of today should spur him on to win at least one next year. Hopefully the masters so he can complete the grand slam!

Unbelievable from Smith today. He went out and won that. I didn’t see anyone outside of McIlroy or Hovland winning going into today, but you have to give it to Smith. That two putt on 17 was sheer class. He knew exactly where he wanted to leave himself to give him the best chance to make the par putt. Not a big fan of McIlroy so glad to see Smith win, but I really fancied McIlroy even prior to the start. Players and now the Open. Been a great year for Smith.

    You'll Never Walk Alone
I was up Saturday and Sunday

The crowd at the end were a disgrace. Supposed golf fans walking/running/sliding over the 17th green, jumping into the road hole bunker for selfies and wrecking the edges of the Swilkern burn.

What if Rory got his eagle and there was a play off?

Scumbags. If I had a gun I would have strafed the lot of them and any there were not dead I’d have neutered them on the way out.

    Classless thick animals.

Ruined a stunning day of golf.

How can anyone behave on a golf course like that? Shocking disrespect and distinct lack of etiquette.

It would have taken a long time to clear those idiots and repair the 1st and 17th in particular to allow for a play off to have taken place.

The Marshalls should have immediately ringed the 17th green and set up machine gun nests over the burn to cut down the pig ignorant wave of dirt coming towards them.

A sad indictment of the selfish ignorant trash that society has evolved into.
