Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro is in advanced talks to join FC Arouca, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has been left out of the Glasgow giants’ pre-season tour so he can finalise a loan move to the Portugese club.


Celtic boss Ange Postecoglu has given the green light to Soro leaving as he does not consider him a key part of his first-team plans for the new season.




FC Arouca, who play in the Primeira Liga, the Portugese top tier, have swooped in to agree terms with Celtic and the player.

Soro has been keen to find a new team for next season after struggling to establish himself at Parkhead since his arrival in 2020 from Bnei Yehuda.




He has been linked with Serbian club Partizan Belgrade as well as Neil Lennon’s Omonia Nicosia.

Lennon was the manager when Soro joined Celtic in January 2020 for a fee of around £2million.

He initially has a knee injury that sidelined him and it was not until the second half of the calamitous 2020-21 campaign that he started to establish himself as a regular.


But Soro struggled to convince Postecoglu and featured just 19 times across 665 minutes last season.

That included just a single Scottish Premiership start for the central midfielder, who was behind the likes of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, David Turnbull and James McCarthy in the pecking order.

He's deffo a more useful player than McCarthy though and much more mobile than Ideguchi......he's just too much of a liability..

We need a massive improvement in that 6 department. Too many player's who just don't have the leg's in midfield to all play together at the same time. Only McGregor and Hatate have the mobility. McCarthy, Ideguchi, Turnbull and O'Riley just don't have it and it'll be exposed if any of those are playing in two of the three position's against anyone decent..

Portuguese side FC Arouca have announced the signing of Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro as he seals his long-awaited exit from the Parkhead side.

The 24-year-old looked like a promising signing for the Parkhead club when he arrived from Bnei Yehuda in January 2020 but he has struggled to deliver on his potential. He made 43 appearances in total, but started just six times under Ange Postecoglou last season - his final coming against Real Betis in a Europa League dead rubber.



He didn't travel with Celtic to Austria for their pre-season trip as he closed in on a move away. And now Primeira Liga new boys Arouca have announced his signing. He pens a season-long loan with an option to buy. They said in a statement: "Ismaila Soro, defensive midfielder and Ivorian international, is the latest addition to FC Arouca! The midfielder arrives in Portugal after winning the Scottish Premiership

Ajeti will be the tough one I think with the wages he’ll likely be on. Seems the type to just want to sit on his * and get the wages rather than go out and try to revitalise his career.
