Maybe so, but the idea of picking a team that finished 4pts above the relegation zone in La Liga, ahead of playing European football and competing for trophies with US, Ajax or even Fenerbahce is baffling.

Been obvious for about a week that we weren't getting him. But Espanyol? Lol. Better league and weather, but you've got to question his ambition if he chose them over us and a few others.

Poor move career-wise, but perhaps says a lot about him and/or his agent. No bother, I got over it around the beginning of the week when it started to become a farce.

Not the weirdest of places to go.

If his aspiration is to play for a top end la liga club, then you initially may want to sign for a lower Spanish club and be showcasing yourself to the big clubs.

Same reason players come to us, usually to be on the door step of the English big clubs and use as a stepping stone.

If a lads got aspirations to a certainly league, you pick you're stepping stone club reasonably wisely.

It's very unlikely he gets signed to a Spanish club from Celtic.

But that's a massive assumption he's eyeing up that league as where he wants to be.

I'm sure with this news filtering out, Ange probably has a massive head start on the rest of us. Hoping other targets are being pursued as we speak.

 

At least that’s the end of this now, thank *! Would be nice if he ends up totally * in Spain after all this.

 

I know that we’d left our offer to him on the table, but with each passing day this week there was less and less belief that he’d be arriving.

Seemingly when we started talks with City, they were open to a loan to buy, or straight sale, as long as there was a buy back option included, but for some reason they’ve moved the goalposts there (possibly down to a couple of sales that have freed up loan spaces for them). It just seems a strange move for a player who we were lead to believe wanted to challenge for titles and play in Europe… and City wanted to gain experience in British football.

For what it’s worth (probably very little), the club are yet to receive any formal rejection or notification from the player’s agent that he’s not coming here. Romano is rarely wrong, but there is the off chance (likely very little!) that he’s only in Barcelona for a tour and talks, much the same way as he’s been here to see what was on offer. I think this ship has sailed, hit an iceberg and sunk though.

 

Being honest If that’s his mentality and those around him we are better without him.

Yes La Liga is a better league but that is a poor move to one of the poorest sides in the league. The City Group will just hope he does alright so their business model gets more money in.

I have to say I don’t see from a player wise what we really get out of this so called relationship with City Group. Denayer and Roberts are the only decent loan signings. Boyata and Guidetti were problems for them they wanted to cash in on and Frimpong they obviously underestimated or would have never sold him to us for what they did.

I think it’s time we looked to be signing players prior to them coming into these sort of groups (footballer farms) as we often end up in these drawn out processes and not getting much for it.

 

I’m led to believe that this will come as news to Ange too. That said, we’ve already lined up other targets.

 

Wonder was it more he choose them over us, or they were happy to have a loan and we would only consider it with an option to buy
