Alexandro Bernabei is free to start the season for Celtic as a two-game ban in his homeland of Argentina will NOT be applicable here.

The 23-year-old was sent off for headbutting Colon star Augusto Schott in an Argentinian Premier League match while making his final appearance for Lanus ahead of his £3.75million move to Parkhead.

There were fears that the suspension that followed would be transferred from the Argentinian FA to the Scottish FA and therefore he would miss the opening two SPFL Premiership clashes of the season - the flag-unfurling against Aberdeen on Sunday, July 31 and then the away trip to Ross County the following Saturday.

Scottish Express Sport can reveal that the necessary documentation to tidy up all of the paperwork has arrived from the Argentinian FA at Hampden - and there is no notification of any sporting sanctions applied so the player won't be suspended in Scotland.

Lanus played two matches after the red-card incident with Bernabei and these took place before the transfer to Celtic was officially completed so that is the most likely reason behind the situation - rather than the Argentinian FA not keen to transfer the suspension.

It's a relief to the player, who has been brought in to challenge with Greg Taylor for the left back slot, and Ange Postecoglou as Celtic set to play their opening warm-up game tonight against Austrian side Wiener Viktoria.

Why would he miss two games, he served a game before he signed. The quality of journalism is frightening.

Because he was given a 3 match ban at the time.

How's he getting off with the ban? I remember mulgrew got a red in a pre season friendly and wasn't allowed to play :56: handballs must be more serious than a headbutt :fear:

See the impact Izzy had coming in his first season, the excitement he brought and energy he brought to the team, I can see that kind of impact. I like Greg Taylor, absolutely want him the squad and a guy I like in the squad and will do what the manager wants. Tactically useful, but he’s not exciting. I think Bernabei is.

    Yep. Just different player's completely..

Taylor was very decent to be fair and impressive as the season went on but he isn't aggressive like Bernabei in the tackle. Bernabei from highlights presses like *. Can beat a man. Is skillful. Rapid..

You've nailed it. Bernabei is just exciting as * and has more potential. Taylor is a decent backup that is steady and Ange can trust but Bernabei has the potential and more facets to his game that can propel him to a pretty high level in the game if he works hard..

Bernabei I watched a game before he signed, and from that wee glimpse tonight, I think holding him back from constantly pressing is the thing we’ll need to put into him to develop further. Because he’s constantly trying to nip in ahead of a player to nick the ball on the front foot to power forward.

The only other guy that does that for us is Callum McGregor. And he can get caught out as a DM for that as well, but he’s usually high up the pitch enough to drag them down when it doesn’t work and escape a booking. He’s exceptional at it.

Aye I was raving about it, was near the halfway line and they went up the park and nearly scored..

Just pressed and nipped in and was away. He'll do that loads for us..

Something I’m buzzing with that, but also can be one of the biggest dangers against him as well. Diego Laxalt was like that at first, then it was his worst thing attacking the ball regardless and trying to nick it on the front foot. But that was under bad management that couldn’t control it.

Aye he went head in the sand after a good start and his passing/crossing went off a cliff as well..

Team with no direction or tactics he ended up just running about attacking the ball and giving away free kicks, that we’d inevitably concede from. If he was under Ange I reckon he’d have done well.

    Same with Frimpong..

In the end they were our only outlets but they'd been neglected beyond all recognition..
