No club will play that sort of money for a Scotland based player.

Don't think it's out of the question in the not so distant future.

For that to happen we would need a long contract and they would need to be tearing it up in the CL for a season or two....seriously tearing it up. I think Scotland will always have a glass ceiling when it comes to player sales. Maybe 30 mill but never 50 mill. Not for 20 years when 50 mill is more like 20 mill.:78:

Brilliant. I could get used to this way of Celtic doing business.

    More please!

Great interview. Seems genuinely excited and very humble ... Fkn love this guy and can't wait to see him tear this league apart this season.

I'm really happy with this. His potential is huge.

I'm surprised he signed for us at the price we've got him for. I've no doubt that plenty of clubs would have paid far more if they had the chance.

I'm glad Jota wanted to come to us.

If he puts in another season of contributing to 27 goals again in the season...accounting for, fingers crossed, getting a CL group we do well in to which he stars in....it's absolutely achievable by next summer I'd say.

Of course I'd rather he perform to that level and somehow selfishly we manage to hold onto to him for another season.

But I don't think £50mill is entirely unthinkable for him.

If someone like Jota has an absolute nailer of a champions league and catches the eye, even just in the group stages, and he's just at the beginning of a 5 year contract, I think right at the moment it's not out the question to be commanding 30 million plus. With that in mind, I don't think the idea is that crazy in the next 5/10 years, especially when you look at the prices players from leagues like Portugal and Netherlands.

To be honest though I'll be hoping he's here to win things with us, rather than just being an investment.

After a summer of waiting, Jota finally put pen to paper on the contract that every Celtic fan worldwide was waiting to see signed.

The Portuguese winger sent supporters wild after joining permanently from Benfica on a five-year contract, following on from an impressive loan spell last season.

His 13 goals and 14 assists helped Ange Postecoglou’s side reclaim the Scottish Premiership title, deliver the League Cup and see Jota become a fans' favourite at the club.

After such a stellar season, returning to Celtic was the only thing on his mind and now the deal is done, he has his eyes set on bringing more success to Paradise.

Speaking at Celtic Park today, the 23-year-old said: “I think that the club speaks for itself and the experience that I had last season made it an easy choice to make.

“I’m really happy that I’m playing here and I just want to develop more with the team and conquer a lot of things.

'Throughout the season I felt at home and I thought it would be the right place to develop so I thought, let's do it'

“Joining a club permanently is always a new chapter, so I’m here to give my best and I’m more than happy to join Celtic because it’s what I really wanted to do.

“Now I must go to training and try and get better every day – that’s my mentality. I know I can get better and I’m excited to see what I can achieve as well.

“As a Celtic player, we always want to win more, we know how tough it will be but first we need to develop and focus on pre-season and then good things will happen.”

He was the man on everyone’s lips throughout the summer as Celtic fans around the world were glued to their phones, searching for any information on if and when he would sign.

The love from the fans and the return of Champions League football to Paradise were too much for Jota to turn down and he can’t wait to experience those big nights and represent the club and the fans.

He added: “The Champions League is probably the best competition in the world for clubs, so of course, it’s always a trigger for players to come and play in it. You have to be honest with that and I’m no exception.

'To live in this moment in the Champions League with this club, everyone keeps saying it’s something special so you better stay at Celtic and it’s happened.'

“I’m delighted I’m here and I want to have a lot of good moments with Celtic.

“I try to do my thing on the pitch, which is why I’m here, and what I can promise is that I’ll fight every day to honour the club and to fight for things.

“Every day I will try and be a better person and player because we want to achieve a lot of things which is why I’m here.”

Don't think you can understate how massive that 5 year deal is.

I think there's a real chance we keep him for a while.
