Bivol with the unanimous 115-113 on all cards. Think it was wider personally

Great win for Bivol. Outstanding performance.

Canelo already has arguably the best resume in combat sports today, but today just showed that he had found his limit in terms of how high he can jump weight. That’s a natural middleweight against a natural light heavyweight.

Relieved the judges called it correctly.

Would have been a travesty if Canelo got the decision

Thought the scoring was about right.

Tbh bivol called it, said canelo was looking only for hard shots, the better work came back at him.

None of them were in trouble and was no chance of a knockdown.

Had Bivol by KO/TKO as I thought he'd win but expected a bit of nonsense on the scorecards. Turns out there was a bit of nonsense on the scorecards but Bivol was that dominant that it didn't matter.

No loss for Canelo, though. He's obviously not a LHW and this won't affect his legacy. I'd like to see him back at MW as he looks a bit sluggish at LHW.

Not sure it was a shocker. I mean, Canelo had a chance but I think a lot of people thought that maybe he bit off more than he could chew his time in terms of weight classes.

It was a shocker for people who don’t know the sport, and likely have no idea who Bivol is.

I think there was always going to be a point where Canelo bit off more than he could chew, and now we know where it is. It’s testament to his own willingness to chase the big fights and test himself that he found it.

Even going into this fight it was clear that Bivol was a terrible risk/reward trade off.

Fair play to Canelo for taking on these challenges, this was going to happen eventually.

A prime Kovalev would have taken the head right off his shoulders. He should stay well clear of Usyk after that nonsense talk last week.

Bivol has the best jab in the sport and fought an excellent fight.

It was a shocker because Canelo was 1/5 (83% chance) on the sportsbook. If you don’t think it was a shock why did you not make a fortune betting Bivol?

I shouldn’t really need to explain this, but I don’t bet and as such don’t follow odds or anything like that.

As I say, it was a shock to people who don’t know the sport, who had likely never heard of Bivol before yesterday. Go on to an actual boxing forum and you’ll see people talk up his chances. These are literally the first 5 comments from a thread on a legit boxing forum focussed on this fight:

“Good fight. I expect bivol to get robbed blind, unless canelos roids get an upgrade and he blasts him out in 3 rounds.”

“Canelo is a G. Think Bivol might win.”

“Bivol is a very interesting challenge for Canelo. I like Bivols chances”

    “Excellent fight.”

“To think years ago I hated Canelo coz I thought he was ducking Golovkin. He just ain't that guy, he'll obviously fight * everyone. Apologies Canelo.”

As I said - by no means a shock to those who actually know the sport. An upset? Aye, but not some kind of shocking result to people who follow this.

@King of Kings yeah I thought you meant it wasn’t an upset. Whether you bet or not is irrelevant, the odds are the only metric to look at to gauge whether something is a big upset or not. Those comments seem to loose let reflect the odds of the fight. Bivol was by no means a no hoper by boxings standards.

I admire Canelo for taking on these challenges, but Light Heavy is a step too far for his 5' 8" frame. He couldn't fight his normal fight, so it was bombs bombs bombs - TBF, it's a testament to his conditioning that he was still throwing so much heavy leather at the end of the fight.

Credit to him for hanging in there with a very good (natural) Light Heavy though. He really is an exceptional fighter - he could call it a day now and genuinely be considered a 'great' - but the key to securing 'legendary' status surely lies in making the necessary sacrifices to get his fighting weight back down (Middle?).

Big bakole looked absolutely tremendous tonight…If he keeps on the same path he might just do some damage in the heavy weight division

He did push it too far and going up and back down weights he way he's going to have to do is no good for your conditioning. Only boxer I've seen done it successfully is Roy Jones, and even then his career was downward spiraling after he beat John Ruiz to win his heavyweight title.

Gradually moving up weights is natural in boxing. Forcing your way up and forcing your way back down is not the way to do it

Always thought Yoka was overrated. He got gifted a decision against Hrgovic at the Olympics.
