The rangers-celtic friendly would still sell out but the game vs the a-league teams would get * all crowds. The last time celtic played in Australia vs the roar it got about 20k at suncorp..

Are the games to be played at the home venues? And what are the capacities?

    Massive socio-economic divide...pfffttt...

You clearly aren't aware of how expensive prawn sandwiches are in the Eastern Suburbs...

Western Sydney and Sydney FC have the biggest rivalry in the league, and it’s genuine * hatred between the 2 clubs. It’s a natural rivalry because West Sydney is the working class, the engine room of the city, while East Sydney is full of snobs, latte sippers and tanned backpackers laying on beaches.

The support is ultra style but it’s not because they are tryhards, it’s just because of the multicultural population of Western Sydney. It’s naturally occurred. Some of it has been a bit extreme, but the hatred between East and West is genuine.

Also, Melbourne Victory and Adelaide Utd hate each other, as do Victory and Melbourne City and Victory and Western Utd. It just exists. Similar to Celtic and Livingston perhaps.

    Absolutely.
To the point of supporter groups punching on pre and post game, even stealing a Sydney FC tifo!

There is a threat to the tournament, The FA/APL which run ALeague Postpone matches even if there is rain on the pitch, might not get some matches played. I'd be careful buying tickets on line, I'm not kidding either. These suits are draconian and soft.
Most fans want the comp played in Winter, how would that happen? A third of the season would never be played, or they'd play make up matches no one goes to on weeknights..lol.

Was at the Celtic v Brisbane game in 2009, and the games in Sydney and Melbourne in 2011.

The atmosphere at Brisbane was incredible. Tims came from all over Australia and New Zealand, and it was like a huge family gathering. It was the same In Sydney and Melbourne. I think the game at Melbourne, on a bitterly cold and rainy night, was a sell out. It had the atmosphere of an actual game, not an exhibition or friendly. The game at Brisbane was the same. Only the Sydney game disappointed a little, where Celtic played the Central Coast Mariners, a poorly supported team in Sydney, and there were approximately 23,000 supporters in a stadium that holds 80,000.

It's completely understandable why many of the support are unhappy about Celtic coming to Australia. But for many of us, it'll be the highlight of our year. My kids are both old enough to attend now, and I can't wait for them to see for themselves what all the fuss is about, and why Celtic is such a big part of our lives. HH

It probably is (Melb Victory v Melb City might disagree) but there is absolutely no concept of rivalry that comes anywhere near the Glasgow rivalry.

The only rivalry I can think of that even deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Glasgow would be Boca v River.

Maybe Galatasaray v Fenerbahce would be considered as a third tier rivalry and then you get a whole bunch like United v Liverpool; Real v Barca; Chelsea v Millwall...

Sydney v Western Sydney is more the level of Stirling Albion v Ayr United...if the Sydney fans had all lost their jobs and the WSW fans all had community service the next day.

I see. Just curious to learn a wee bit about it. Think Ange has alluded to the Melbourne and Adelaide rivalry a few times during some interviews so I thought that was maybe the biggest rivalry over there.

One of my mates back in Aus who is not a football man at all (but supports all Aussies in sports internationally) saw Celtic FC jerseys on sale at the airport when flying from Sydney to Melbourne and got himself one.

This is the type of Celtic buzz that Ange has brought to Australia. Quite unprecedented.
