Exactly. He may well have been the sole member of the board against the appointment for all we know.

There’s always going to be some who jump to their own conclusions though, even without any evidence to support them. I’ll give Nicholson a fair chance to prove his worth (even though I’ve met him and thought he was a tool :56:).

Remember the * Liewell used to spout every January about it being a hard window to shop in?

What an audition for your first window as CEO. * yer fan engagement just get a team that can get back to scudding that mob from the South

So far Nicholson is is showing backing to Ange and giving him the tools to do the job so that has to be a positive. But I can't help but think this is a new approach from the whole Board. They sat and watched the Huns throw everything they didn't have at winning the league last season, their goal was to stop us winning the Ten. Has our Board learned from that? Not so much as throwing everything at it but giving Ange what he needs to win the league and secure CL group stages. If so, our Board have woken up, a settled team for a few seasons will let us progress. It's up to Ange to deliver because if this is the Boards way of thinking, they will want a return on their investment from the transfer window.

It's almost if you prepare for a transfer window and let those who know what they're doing target transfers and get them in in a timely manner and not rely on friend of a friend information or don't rely on the same agent to recommend their clients, your club actually has a shot at moving forward.

    Who'd a thought it?

This man Michael deserves the utmost respect for raiding Dermott's biscuit tin. A mover and a shaker that wants to be part of a championship environment by doing what he can to make that happen.

Mental mate, never would have thought a successful manager would be able to identify a footballer. Thought that was the accountants job. Every days a school day.

We were constantly doing rinse and repeat for the last few seasons and expecting a different outcome.

Biggest progression we've had is Lawwell leaving imo. It's allowed us to move forward (finally).

I hate to bring negativity into this (I don't really, I live for it) but I think people are getting way ahead of themselves.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Nicholson has brought in Ideguchi, Maeda, Hatate, Kenny and O'Riley.

The first three have come in for very low cost, desperate to come here and during their off season. They all know the manager quite well either by reputation or by being former players. They were all almost certainly identified in the summer and only not brought in because that was essentially the Japanese January window (considering it's their mid-season).

Kenny is 18 and has come from Ireland, so nothing spectacular from the CEO there.

O'Riley looks like a good piece of business, but again he's 21, from MK Dons and only £1.5m.

All I'm trying to say here is I think talk of 'raiding the biscuit tin' etc. are very premature. We made a fucktonne of money on the last day of the window, now we're spending a relatively small amount on some very straightforward deals. Credit where it's due, but there is far too much praise being thrown about at this point.

What we're seeing is welcome but also fairly standard stuff so far. I daresay even Lawwell would've brought in the Japanese boys.

    What am I looking for?

If Nicholson can secure Jota (maybe even CCV) then I'll be right on here with every bit of praise. Right now, I feel we are giving far too much praise and I think it mostly started when it looked like Jota was a done deal and £3m was getting spent on McGree (not blaming Nicholson, of course).

    Measured praise, fellas.

100%. If Nicholson can stick to his current path, working alongside Ange, bringing in the right people behind the scenes, investing properly, then this could be the start of special. The right people in the right roles working to their talents and specialisms.

Unlike PL who who was on some ego trip, using us like a live Champ man team. Suits should always be in the background....

If we paid over the top for ajeti and barkas the negativity is aimed at the CEO and first team manager and in lot of instances rightly so. I remember people on here demanding we pay the 10mill fee wanted for Duffy rather than just loan. The opposite can be said to be true, surely the CEO/ first team manager deserves credit for obtaining real quality at what appears to be rock bottom fees. The one constant in this window has been the reports of how Celtic were carrying out daylight robbery in Japan and now same seems true to o'riley deal.. ye fair point about not getting too carried away is fair enough but I think the club has gone about its business impeccably this window.

    As always, got to agree.

He's doing a decent job, he deserves a little bit of praise and a little bit of time here.

But he's not done anything ground breaking.

The backroom staff coming in is slow as *, the players in the door are very much welcome, but three are the doing of Ange and the other two are massive gambles in the sense of low fees and hope they step up

Is O'Reilly an Ange player, or a typical Celtic signing? Yet to find out. Wouldn't be the first time we've spent this sort of money on a player that the manager doesn't want, in the hope we hit a gem.

I'll be happier if he continues on this trend and then some.

If we get the backroom teams all sorted out and fully back the manager here, along with pushing the club forward with ambition, then I'll be praising the guy.

But at present, he's doing the basics of what a CEO should do.
Which, on the face of it, is a lot more than lawwal did (more often than not) in support of the football club.
