CELTIC could turn to Derby County’s Lee Buchanan to solve their problem left-back slot.

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has used FIVE different players in that position this season.

Greg Taylor, Adam Montgomery, Liam Scales, Boli Bolingoli and Josip Juranovic have all played there.

But Celts have been tracking kid Buchanan for months, and sent top spy Mick Doherty to check him out last week.

The 20-year-old was wanted by rivals Nottingham Forest in the summer, but they could not afford him

Now Derby may sell in the next window.

Quite like the sounds of him.

He has a year extension option in the contract though apparently. Well, Derby do.

What I’ve seen of him, he’s not anything exceptional to what we currently have. I’d be looking for better in Europe for the same amount Derby would expect. Soon enough the word will be out there’s something special happening here and players will want to come here to be involved.

Aren't Derby jn administration? Not like they can hold any club to ransom.

But would prefer an established player. At 20 could be seen as more of a project

    * knows but will he be another project, bedding in, getting up to speed etc etc. Just reckon we would be better off getting someone that can hit the ground running, a tad older.
Thats mental that we have tried 5 different players in the LB position this past few months and none have grabbed the chance.

Yes they are in administration, yet they’ve been allowed to bring in players and pay them, unlike other EFL clubs in administration. They are for some reason “too big to fail” or something like that and getting treated differently. So don’t think this is a normal administration where we might pick up a bargain.

Derby left back Lee Buchanan has been tipped with a move to Celtic park , but the Derby Telegraph report the Championship side will look to extend his deal at the club.

The club will look to take up an option of a further 12 months on Buchanan's deal but the final details of the additional year have stalled with the club in administration.

The administrators have said discussions are being held with regard to contract extensions and permission being sought from the EFL to do this.

Just had a wee look on the derby forums and most posts are positive about this lad.

Not sure if he will be a step up regarding with what we have at the moment.

He would definitely improve us at left back. Would be happy with this one.

I think physically he is, he looks strong and to have decent pace both going forward and in recovery from the videos of him. Recovery pace and strength are probably Taylor’s biggest weaknesses.

Technically I am not so sure he does but is young with time to develop. He looks capable on the ball but seems to have a tendency to overrun it when dribbling and his crossing looks poor.

If he was brought in I would imagine it would to rotate with Taylor rather than instantly replace him but he maybe one who kicks on quickly under a good coach like Ange.

Get the same feeling. I’m not convinced by him and think we could find better.

I think if Taylor wasn't here I'd be happy to take him in and have someone more senior in front.

But right now we need someone with the ability to walk right into that team and have us in absolutely no doubt that they are the starting LB. I'm not sure if he would be the answer, despite the fact I think he looks a good prospect.

That’s the feeling I get, that he isn’t an automatic first pick LB. I’d rather Ralston at RB and Juranovic out of position at LB than this guy at LB.

As you say we need someone who walks into the team with no doubts about him and he’s not that IMO.

The German LB we were linked with randomly a few weeks back would do.

He's 28/29, having a good season, we need someone to come in immediately and do us a turn for a few years. Then have someone like Buchanan behind him or even Taylor.

Final piece of the Ange jigsaw, would imagine we’d have to get shot of Boli somehow first though as squad is getting bloated.

He would definitely fit the bill, straight into the squad, with no doubts. One of my concerns about Buchanan is his end product and technical ability, the German fella looked a level or two above.

Length of contract might be the clincher at that age and I think this team will peak next year and the year after, which is why we’ve signed most on long term contracts to get value when those who want to leave go.
