I've watched many a SPL game, I've watched Celtic probably a dozen times this last season or so . I love my football, I watch a lot of it and there's teams in your division that wouldn't get promoted in L2. Motherwell came 3rd last season and they are basically a L2 team .

You've banged the drum about ambition but let's be honest it's money driven. It's got nothing to do with footballing ambition.

Boro haven't been in the top flight in over a decade. If you go up, which is slim like every season, you'll be lucky to stay up there for one season and then back to the lower leagues for perhaps another decade plus.

We're both going to be stepping stones to an English top flight team. He's more likely to get picked up by an EPL team coming to us than he would be going to you.

Newcastle lost to Cambridge at the weekend with probably the strongest team they could put out, presumably that makes them non-league standard. There are some poor teams in our league but overall the standard is not as bad as English fans like to claim.

 

Celtic or Middlesbrough isn’t even a question.

The fact this guy is even considering it is enough to move on, IMO.

If he thinks he has a better offer elsewhere then good luck to him. It’s a short window, give him a day or two ultimatum and move on.

 

Championship is brutal this year, there’s a real lack of quality outside the top 2 and it’s the only reason Boro are going for it this year. I wouldn’t be criticising the quality of the SPL at the moment, and this is coming from a neutral observer who watches both.

I would say the majority of the SPFL outside of ourselves and sevco are probably championship, with some being league 1 standard.

Non-league talk is nonsense, frankly. It shows how much money can skew peoples perception of quality.

 

What if he’s got a concrete offer from elsewhere (Boro) and not us?

Or what if it’s his agent giving an ultimatum to us to try and speed our decision making up, as we’re the player’s preferred choice but he’s not ours?

What if it’s both?
