Think it will be interesting going forward with the fact that Nicholson is from a legal background. To me it falls on his shoulders to make sure the club is treated fairly in all aspects of governance by the SPFL and SFA.

It's all well and good praising him for getting these signings in early, which is fair enough, but there are far bigger issues the club is facing and his reputation as CEO will hinge on how he deals with things outwith signing players.

Would like to see him actively pursuing a fair implementation of the rules across the board, and not just stay in his shell and shirk responsibility. Am sure he's well aware of Paul McBride QC, if he really wants to be a success in his new role he'd do well to learn from the man.

Some very valid points there. However for me the utter shambles we were in last summer and lets face it we are still a long way from being the finished article right now means the Director of Football role goes away for now as long as Nicholson and Ange have such a good working relationship which they seem to. Once the team is running well then I think you can think to longer term structure and a Director of Football role but not right now while we are still so early in such a massive rebuilding project with the team. Maybe in a years time we can start to look at this role but not now.

He will seem competent as long as he keeps allowing money to be spent :giggle1:

Every Manager always gets money to spend in their first season. So nothing new is happening.

I’m still sceptical, until the deals for CCV and Jota go through.

Can’t help but think the commercial boost was what prompted the proactive nature of the Japanese signings.

To be fair, I’m only sceptical of him because of his links to Lawwell.

Tbh i think this window and maybe again in the summer we will spend a good amount of money but judging by the lengths of contracts handed out now i think after the summer we will maybe see one or two leaving and one or two coming in so the outlay will not be as much going forward and we will try to keep as many together for as long as possible going forward.

Wouldn’t describe someone hiring Bernard Higgins until he pulled out over fan pressure as competent but each to their own.

Meh.. I'm obviously talking on the football side of things, i.e transfers and providing Ange with the means to push on for the rest of the season.

The Japanese signings were also fairly cheap and although it’s January here, it’s the main break in Japan so not difficult either in the way January signings are typically difficult.

Besides that, we have all the Bernard Higgins carry on.

For me I’m reserving judgement on this window to see what happens with Jota, CCV and any new signings we get in. I’d also like to see him get some fixture rearrangements if we’re losing half the first team to international football.

Obviously or it wouldn’t have been stopped by Higgins himself.

If he had anything about him he’d have backed the support and took the decision out of Higgins hand, not that it should ever have got to that stage in the first place.

Was it up to him to make the appointment? I genuinely don't know.

Was Nicholson just one of ten men making the appointment? Did it have to be unanimous? Was DD driving the appointment?

Where are you getting the idea that it was Higgins who pulled out? Surely you can’t just be making that assumption based on his statement?

It was a board level decision, not Nicholson’s alone.

So in other words, he may or may not have played a role in Higgins appointment and if he did, we have no idea how much he actually backed the idea?
