A move out of Scotland is a must for him. Probably needs to go to league 1 or 2 in England.

Sadly I don't think it's ever going to happen for the lad

A career in the LOI awaits

Not sure how long he has on his Celtic contract. He signed in 2019 so if it was 4 years that means he has one more season left this summer. I agree with you though at this point he is 22 and it is clear he has no future at Celtic. Best for him to move on this summer if we can strike a deal with someone for a small fee.

Says here he signed a three year deal in 2019, so unless he's signed an extension since then he'll be gone in the summer.

The fact that he did not get recalled last year when we had no striker says it all really, that should hav been his chance after the Dubai fiasco, but he's not doing it at lower leagues, he's not going to here. Best of luck to him, but he's not Celtic

Could well be correct. I don't know for sure how long he signed for in 2019. If his deal is up this summer then basically he is gone already given he is out on loan the rest of this season. Can't see him been offered a new deal as he is 22 and not even remotely in Ange's plans. Looks likely to be a player who will find his level at a lower division club at this point.

Ayr fans weren't very complimentary of him. He'll find a club I'm sure but any high hopes for him have well and truly been extinguished now.

I would say that is probably very likely. Unfortunately it just seems his career didn't progress to the heights it looked like he might reach when he was starting for the Ireland U19 team that reached the European Championship semi-finals in 2019.

Not uncommon for these players to not succeed. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the players from that tournament never play a professional match.
I get the impression he will head down to English league 2.

Very true even a team that does as well as that Ireland team did the majority of the players will not make it at the highest level of the professional game. Just like in Afolabi's case many often find their level at a lower tier professionally.

Portsmouth are interested in signing striker Jonathan Afolabi after an eye-catching trial period for the club.

Pompey are looking to sign the forward as Danny Cowley looks to bolster his squad for the new season. It’s understood the Blues are weighing up moves for him and remain interested in former Barnsley striker Victor Adeboyejo, who are both free agents.

;Afolabi has been on trial with the Blues, and scored and grabbed an assist in their 2-0 friendly win over Qatar SC in Spain on Saturday. The 22-year-old started out with Pompey’s south coast rivals Southampton but never made an appearance for the senior team.

He then moved to Scottish giants Celtic but again found game time extremely limited and was loaned out to Dunfermline and Dundee before joining Ayr last summer. He was most recently on the books of Airdrie, where he had a short spell at the end of last season scoring three goals in 15 appearances.

Ouch as much as I like my old club that really shows you how far off Afolabi was at Celtic. On the positive side for him Bohemians badly needed someone up front and the last 2 main strikers Bohemians have had earned themselves moves to lower league clubs in the form of Rotherham and just last month Scott Browns Fleetwood Town so the opportunity is there for himself to get going again with his career.
