The versatile midfielder has signed until the end of the 2021/22 season.

“We’re very happy to bring Liam into the club on loan until the summer,” manager Graham Alexander said. “He’s a player that has all the attributes we look for in our midfield.

“He comes into a strong group of players and his addition improves that again.

“He’s motivated and eager to play football and we look forward to working with him.”

Shaw, 20, moved to Celtic from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

Having risen through the ranks at Hillsborough, his professional debut came in the National League during a loan spell with Chesterfield in November 2019.

Returning to Wednesday, he made two appearances in the prolonged 2019/20 season before establishing himself in the Owls’ side, making a further 22 appearances.

Signing a pre-contract with Celtic last March, he made his debut in the UEFA Europa League match with Real Betis in early December, before following it up with a substitute appearance away to St Mirren.

Young Celtic defensive midfielder, Liam Shaw has moved out on loan to Motherwell for the remainder of this season.

The former Sheffield Wednesday player signed a pre-contract agreement with the Hoops last March and joined up with his new team-mates for pre-season training in the summer before featuring in the build-up games prior to the start of the season.

The 20-year-old made his competitive debut for the Hoops in the 3-2 UEFA Europa League win over Spanish outfit, Real Betis in early December before coming on for Nir Bitton near the end of the 0-0 draw with St Mirren in Paisley just before Christmas.

Everyone at Celtic Park wishes Liam all the best in his loan spell at Fir Park.

I think he's gonna be a player. Good move for him, he'll learn a lot more playing every week than he will sitting on our bench Hopefully a McGregor/Christie scenario where he can prove he has what it takes to make it here.

Good move for Liam and Motherwell. I think he will add to Motherwell’s midfield and hopefully we get a clued up player back.

Agreed. This exactly the type of move the player needed and we needed him to get so that we can really see where he stacks up come next summer when Ange can hopefully have a much more focused and full pre-season rather then last summer when it was almost all about players coming and going at a staggering number.

Morecambe Football Club is delighted to confirm the season-long loan signing of Celtic defensive midfielder Liam Shaw.

The 21-year-old progressed through the Sheffield Wednesday Academy, signing professionally with the Owls in 2018, before earning himself a month-long loan at Chesterfield in November 2019.

Following his Wednesday debut off the bench against QPR in July 2020, a first start would come 11 days later against Middlesbrough on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.

The season after, Shaw became a more established figure in the first team and managed 22 appearances in all competitions for the South Yorkshire outfit, his first professional goal coming in a 2-1 home win over Middlesbrough in December 2020.

It was during the summer of 2021 that the Sheffield-born man opted to make the move from his boyhood club and join Scottish giants Celtic on a four-year deal.

The youngster’s debut for the Hoops came in a 3-2 Europa League Group Stage win over Spanish side Real Betis, with Shaw enjoying 65 minutes of gametime on the European stage.

13 days later and the 6ft 2 man made his Scottish Premier league bow, in a 0-0 draw with St Mirren, before joining Motherwell for the remainder of the 2021/22 season a month later.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Shaw has experience across a number of positions, including centre-back, central midfield and attacking midfield, where he has played a total of 42 professional games, racking up a total of 2,213 minutes of professional football.

Throughout the duration of his stay at the Mazuma Stadium, Shaw will wear the number 20.
