Naka had a full time translator ( Nickname was Maka/Macca ) . Mcgeady and Ferry said in the podcast that when WGS was giving it tight to Naka he would actually be screaming and shouting at the interpreter , Naka would sometimes be other side of the room :56:.

"Hi naka, Gordon said your a lovely boy and just keep scoring free kicks"

    :56:

Wonder if the translator actually gave him word for word what he said? Or paraphrased nicely

McGeady was adamant that Naka could speak English on those Open Goal interviews I'm sure.

Apparently Maeda speaks Portuguese and has been learning English for a while with the thought of moving back to Europe.
Kyogo starting to understand the basics.
You’d think Ideguchi would have some from his time at Leeds etc.

Most training stuff they’ll pick up from just watching but analysis stuff for more detailed instructions they’ll have the interpreter explain the harder stuff.

All the players probably know the Japanese words for greetings, goodbye etc. So little stuff like that will help them settle.

At least one of them has to do a Bitton and basically be Glaswegian by the time they’re done. My moneys on Ideguchi :57:

What happened to Guchi at Leeds was nobodies fault.
He was brought in under sincere intentions, but after they started flashing cash there was no way he was gonna break into that side.
Just good ol fashioned English football snobbery.

The fella will fit Anges system perfectly.

As for Beislas * about a language barrier... Pure * making excuses bollocks.

"Ooooh, we had to use a translator on skype". * up ya dozy oul *.

Not only does a player pick up English language game terminology very quickly, but lessons, teammate support, coach support, translators, language apps.... All if it is there to facilitate.

Any manager using a "language barrier" in 2022 is a * * nugget. Its pure nonsense.

I follow the football over here in Vietnam (occasionally) and theres literally scores of south americans playing in the top flight... And not * one of them do interviews in Vietnamese, or Id wager, have a working day to day knowledge of it. Its a notoriously difficult language.

Ever watched the J-league? How do all those aussies and europeans deal with the "language barrier" over there?

    Pure bollocks.

ALL of these lads will hit the ground running imo, just like Kyogo did, just like Naka did, just like Ki did. Koki Mizuno didnt work out here because he was *, not because of any language barrier.

Of a Japanese speaking coach/ analyst / translator is needed, or beneficial, we'll get one. But i highly doubt it.

If you put the effort in, English is a * easy language to master orally, and all of my own Japanese students always blazed it after a month or two of 4 lessons a week. And thats in a non immersive environment.

This is not an issue imo.

Yeah he could speak buts here and there, but what I meant was he didn’t NEED to learn English as the club hired interpretors for him.

I think it’ll be different with the new guys though, they’ll here in numbers so would make sense even for them to socialise at english lesson classes or whatnot…

English has only been recently introduced at Primary school level in Japan. For those oldies (40s-50s), we did 3 of years of French or German from 11 and then could continue or drop it. Was like that in Japan until a few years ago.
