DUNDEE boss James McPake is agonising over the immediate future of loan striker Leigh Griffiths.

SunSport understands a break clause in the original season-long deal allows McPake to terminate it this month and send the 31-year-old back to Celtic.

Dens Park chiefs Tim Keyes and John Nelms are so far deeply unimpressed by Griffiths’ contribution — just nine starts and two goals — so pressure is building on McPake to justify keeping him for the rest of the season.

It was thought Griffiths close relationship with ex-Hibs pal McPake would help to reignite the former Scotland star’s career.

But instead he has struggled for fitness and form, with a total of only 14 appearances.

What could help him is Dundee’s lack of depth in the forward areas.

McPake has already decided Jason Cummings is done at Dens following a disciplinary issue, while Cillian Sheridan is out with a ruptured Achilles.

That leaves just Danny Mullen and Alex Jakubiak for McPake to call on.

Griffiths has no future at Celtic, despite being handed a surprise one-year contract by Ange Postecoglou last summer.

If he comes back early, just terminate his contract, pay him off to get him out the door.
Such a shame that such a talented player has thrown it all away with his naive behaviour.

If he's sent back I wouldn't even bother keeping him or sticking him in the B team. Just get rid of the useless *. Players in the B team probably working their balls off to get a chance of being called up to the first team. This muppet has had more than his fair share of opportunities.

Don’t think he’s ever been a massively talented player, got a bit of ability and an eye for a goal but his touch, link up, and all round football brain is miles off it. His one excellent season with us the entire set up of the team was built for him to score goals.

Cannot wait until we’ve finally cut ties with him, even given our issues with squad depth this season it’s ridiculous this fat waster was awarded with a new deal only for him to * it up against the wall a few days later. *.

If this useless piece of * had any work ethic, and stayed 100% fit, he would not been loaned out and we would be top of the league. Griff a couple of seasons ago would be priceless when we had no fit strikers for spells this season.

Just based on that he should Never, ever be welcomed back.

Hopefully we can fob him off elsewhere for 6 months then we're free of him.

Offer him to Hibs as part of a deal for Boyle.

Let's send him up to Dingwall, I don't even want him on the training pitch being a nuisance and ruining the good vibes with some * "banter"

Maloney seams to have a bit of class about him, no chance he'll want Griff.

with players being capable of playing till there 38-40 in the modern world, its incredible how he's managed to end his career barely past the half way point. i dont know whats wrong with him but he seriously needs to get himself sorted.
    What a waste of talent.

In his prime an excellent finisher and very good all round player. He might not be popular with the Celtic support these days but to deny his ability would be idiotic. However his days at Celtic are finished due to what appears to be a big lack of professionalism from him.

Him and Cummings should in theory be an excellent partnership in this league.

    Wasters.
