I'm born and bred Glaswegian and don't pronounce/say half the words some of you are coming away with. Maybe folk trying too hard.

Majority of north ayrshire has glasgow dialect but not so much in east or south ayrshire.

Cumbernauld and EK both new towns largely populated by Glaswegians and their descendants, much like post-war schemes in towns across western central Scotland.

You can still hear a broad Scots accent in some parts of Ayrshire, Irvine in particular being a new town and much of north Ayrshire as they call it being close to Glasgow and populated with decanted Glaswegians its less prominent.

Barrhead is a weird yin. Literally up the back of Nitshill but they say things like “heedge” for hedge and “corr”for car.

    Inbred weirdos…

Aye they are all at it in Dumbarton aswell. Right out to Helensburgh and they still talk like that. Folk in Kilmarnock try it aswell and they have no right to be talking like that either. Far too far away from Glasgow. Folk in Shotts speak with the weegie accent too and its halfway along the M8 ffs. I suppose the Cumbernauld one always annoyed me the most cause its very close to where I grew up and nobody spoke like that. Its not on. Get it stopped

The * from Bellshill in my work call a car a ‘corr’. Strange behaviour.

What accent is Dumbarton if it's not Glaswegian?

    I don't think there's a difference in accent :39:

Brilliant, coolest sounding name ever....I'll take that :36:

In all seriousness though, I can't tell the difference from between here and Glasgow, then again....I didn't notice that my grandparents had Irish accents....just so used to hearing it I guess.

When they say "going intae the toon" in Dumbarton....do they mean going into Dumbarton town centre or do they mean going into Glasgow???? Cumbernauld folk seem to think that means they are going to Glasgow. Thats no what it means.

Ah right ...I get what yous mean now :50:...If I say that then I mean Dumbarton town centre, if I'm going to Glasgow, I say "I'm going to Glasgow" but I do know that people will say they're going " Up the toon"
