Powerful! Never knew this. Sad aswell reading it. Floods of memories good and bad after watching that video. The images just brings me back to my childhood growing up during the troubles. Hard to describe the feeling I get but I guess it's only something people who have grown up through it really understands.

As for my own Avi. It's me holding the bands tricolor just after a republican hunger strike March in Glasgow in 1984/5. It's either the old billy Reid or James Connelly bands flag. We used to put many of them up in Ardoyne when they stayed twice a year over supporting the republican movement and anytime we were over, I'd be taken to there marches. Nearly 40 years ago! Scary!

I get what your saying about the effects and scars of the troubles. I find it more difficult dealing with it now than I did living through it. It was definitely a big slice of surrealism trying to live normal daily lives when it was far from normal.

I can resonate with thst about difficult dealing with it as you get older. The smallest of things can just hit you and the floods of emotions flood back and can just throw your whole thought process into one of something that is difficult to explain. Don't get me wrong, all of us where hugely affected by the troubles, it would be hard not too. Especially living in the strong republican areas we grew up in but it's strange thinking back to them in certain ways. Anytime we heard of a bomb or a shooting where we were near, instead of running away, we ran towards the danger to see what was going on. Two stories thst come to mind are when We even followed to IRA gun men walking along Enta drive in Ardoyne like it was nothing. One of them jumped up on a wall and started cracking at the cops and orange men across loyalist part of Ardoyne. Same night 2 local provos tried to shoot a home made RPG at the cops and again, there's us running over to have a look at it standing beside them while the Brits and RUC just a good stone throw away. Bonkers even thinking about it now.

Very difficult to explain the emotions when looking back on the troubles. The Truma all our families went through including personally ourselves. There'd be times I'm sitting normal, something would pop up on the TV about it then you'd go, what the * did I even watch that for.

This one is amusing and I do this myself but it shows how some of us are conditioned. My uncle's and all his mates used to come down to Mayo for fishing trips over the years. Anytime they'd all be in drinking in the pubs, if someone walked in everyone of them turned there heads towards the door and instantly pause to check on who it was. They never even knew the where doing it untill a few of locals asked them why they did this everytime the doors opened! They are just wired to instinctively think in a split second, is this some * about to spay the place with bullets. Took them years to get over it but some still do it to this day.

What was normal to us was like something from a movie to others. Even telling some people living here in mayo what we went through it, alot just can't comprehend it it was that crazy!

Nicked the Mel Gibson in the Celtic attire, I added the Celtic crest behind him.

    Ron is my hero.

Ron’s reply upon getting a plate of salad plonked down in front of him. “Why are you giving me food that my food eats?” :giggle1:
