It's not really mind baffling, it was almost 20 years ago and there's every chance Ricksen apologised to Thompson?

Obviously the guy lost his life in a truly terrible and tragic way, that fate is one I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. However, Ricksen, by every account going, was a grade A * *.

Was unimpressed when we signed him, but by fk what a player he was for us.

Think I stuck him in my All Time Personal Celtic XI

Big game player, one of the biggest threats on the pitch for us in a team full of them, from LWB mostly.

Hunskelper, big European goals and like most of that team, hard as nails with a massive presence on the pitch and an edge about him that I love to see in a Celtic player.

He was by far the best option England had at LM at that point, and he was ignored because he played for us, he was scoring winners against Barca and dominating big teams in Europe at the time, along with Sutton (who’s lack of gametime is more understandable to me with the options they had through his career) but Thommo? They put Paul Scholes LM ahead of him, simultaneously taking one of if not the best player in that team to a position that made him useless, but ignored the balance it’d have brought to that England team.

Not like he hadn’t been a really good player down there as well. Like many in O’Neill’s team though, they kicked on next to each other, in a dressing room full of leaders and knowing they had a guy up top that elevates them as a whole as well in Henrik.

Honestly, sometimes it feels like it must be nostalgic green tinted specs but that squad was chock full of absolute leaders, absolute winners. The dressing room (and the stories we’ve heard nowadays seems to back it up) must have been an interesting chaotic place haha
