Joe Hart v Fraser Forster: Celtic captain has say on status of current stopper
Celtic captain Callum McGregor believes Joe Hart can earn a place in the pantheon of outstanding goalkeepers that have represented the club over the past two decades.

And, even a mere four months into the 34-year-old’s Celtic career following his move from Tottenham Hotspur, McGregor believes his ability to produce big moments at key times – as he did in Thursday’s 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen – puts him in a similar bracket to former England team-mate Fraser Forster, who excelled in Glasgow across two memorable stints. Hart’s impressive form has allowed Ange Postecoglou to solve one of the most vexatious issues in the club’s spectacular collapse while chasing a record 10th title last season, with Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all then failing to convince.

“Joe is massive for us and again made two huge saves for us in Germany. Celtic have a history of having brilliant keepers, it is something which is pretty synonymous with the club,” said McGregor, with Artur Boruc, Craig Gordon and Forster all proving top class operators in the past 15 years.

If we mention Fraser Forster, I would say Joe is of a similar stature. He is a really experienced player so we didn’t really worry about him in terms of settling into the team. He is a good age and a good personality as well so it is great to see him doing so well here. I am sure he will always be pushing to get better. That is one for all the players, you are always pushing to improve and I am sure he will be exactly the same

Up until Artur I can guarantee Calmac that having a class goalkeeper is absolutely NOT synonymous with Celtic!

There’s a list of absolute * goalkeepers and a few decent ones, without going back literally decades.

Growing up a good keeper for Celtic was unheard of, we had a decade of Artur and Fraz, still confused me we had keepers that could make the difference bout 8 years in.

Was worried today when he was down so long. Possibly our most important player for us winning our league back.

Was worried he'd hurt his neck. Lots of neurological testing going on from the medical team and you could see he was shaken.

Glad he was OK in the end. Shocking stuff from the sheep player going through him.

Was well late. He definitely wanted to leave a bit on him..

Mental he carried on as I'm convinced his leg's wobbled when he got up first time..

Aye, me too, that sheep thug knew exactly what he was doing.
What a save that was too. Thats the difference, no way is Bain or Barkas keeping that out.

Absolutely been pivotal to our improved performances this season and that save yesterday showed that even when he is not busy he can pull off saves like that.

Hart isn't as good as either Forster or Gordon but he has definitely solved a real problem there for us and brings a leadership that the other two possibly didn't.

Hart isn't as good a shot-stopper as Forster, but he's still excellent in that area and better than Gordon was for us, and the leadership qualities he brings * over the other two.

Did a good job of keeping Forster out of the England team for years.
