If Kyogo wasn't scoring so many I'd give him that time. I do feel though that if the guy had stayed fit during the summer then he would have got a run during Kyogo's injury. Maybe we could play him in a midfield 3 behind Kyogo and that could work.

That chance Forrest set him up for, FFS just get it on target. And before that, he tries a shot from about 40yards out.
The more I see of him, the more I despair.
Saying that, would love to see him start beside another striker, why do we never go with 2 out and out strikers, seems to be a thing of the past? Larson Sutton style, worked a treat.

Needs games to bed in. Once he gets going he'll do well BUT with one up front and Kyogo the main man that might never happen.

Mental how we bring in guys like Jota on loan, but won't think twice about splashing the cash on a * who's two main skills are being fat and falling over.

Ange simply will not change his shape. He goes with the 3 forwards, and who can blame him, we're the highest scoring team in the league.

I would like to see a couple of bounce games organised during this international break for fringe guys to get game time. We have nearly a full team of guys who could do with minutes.

    In our 4-3-3

    Bain
    Orhoghide
    Julien
    Scales
    Boli
    McCarthy
    Soro
    Shaw
    Johnston
    Forrest
    Giakoumakis

They could all do with match fitness.

Bounce games are hard to organise these days with covid protocols

Hadn’t thought about that even one against our Colts team wouldn’t be the worse thing as our next run of games I can’t see many of them (possibly Forrest) getting much game time as we have a cup semi, away game in Germany and Aberdeen and Hearts at home in the league so all big games.

Ideal for seeing games out which is a very important but need more from him. I’m still confident he will be a good player for us. Early days yet still but I can see why fans are worried after the instant successes of our other forwards bought this summer.

Think he’ll score a barrow load when he drops down a couple of divisions :fear:

Ridiculously early to write him off.

Tbh I can't say I share some of the early negativity about him. To me, he looks like the classic case of a guy lacking a bit of match sharpness and still trying to find his rhythm in the way we play when he gets on the pitch.

I trust Ange to get him up to the required levels then we can see what he's all about.

I'm starting to get a bit worried that he might be another Ajeti. Good player but maybe doesn't suit the style of play that Ange is implementing.

Could be but the pen and that chance just before the end against Livi, along with the one Forrest set him up with against Dundee are a real worry, nothing to do with styles of play. Just gilt edged chances, bread and butter for any striker.
    Now thats a worry.
Give him till Jan, even if its mainly 20 odd min as sub most games, then make a call.

I don't think it's early to "write him off" at all.

I also can't see him "coming good".

He's just not a very good player. The best we can hope for is that he can do a job for us and help us see games out with a bit of hold up play.

He's quite simply NOT the goal machine that so many in here got themselves into a tizzy about.

His record and indeed his fee attest to that.

    Look at the Eredivisie's top scorers, look how much they were exported for;

    Dirk Kuyt- 2006 - 9m
    Alves- 2007 - 20m
    Huntelaar- 2008 - 28m
    El Hamduoi -2010- 5.5m
    Suarez - 2011- 23m
    Dost- 2012 - 7.5m
    Bony- 2013 - 12m
    Finnbogasson - 2014- 8m
    Depay - 2015 - 25m
    Janssen - 2016 - 17m
    Jahanbackksh (sp?) - 2018- 17m
    De Jong - 2019- 12.5m
    Berghuis - 2020- 28.5m
    Jackie Mackies - 2021- 2.5m....

He's simply a bang average striker who had a magical season. I don't think he's anywhere near the level we should be looking at, nevermind paying for.
If we added up all 1's 2's and 3 millions this board have * away on cheap punts for strikers, In the last few years alone, we could have afforded a top, CL level striker in his early 20's by now ffs.

Again, I can't stress this enough... Im wishing on a star every night for the big man. I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong.
But our track record for these types of strikers (cheap punts with "something about them") is * woeful. And something needs to be done about it imo.

Transfer fees don't necessarily dictate how good a job a player will do for you, don't see what the relevance of what other players' fees from the Eredivise were.

The relevance, to me anyhow, is that strikers from the Eredivisie, TOP strikers, arent within our reach financially.

    This one was.

Yes, it's true that a fee doesn't necessarily dictate the actual value of a player, that IS obvious. But broadly speaking... You usually get what you pay for..

When you spend 20m on a striker, you USUALLY get a 20m striker.
And when you spend 2.5, you get a 2.5m striker.

We've wasted FAR too much money on these cheap strikers, hoping we luck out.

    It has to stop.

Do PROPER scouting, not just a * screenshot of a seasons goal tally, investigate if the player suits the managers system etc etc, and commit finances.

Remember BR... I don't need any more wingers.

This board speculates wildly on cheap punts hoping for future transfer fees.

It's a stupid, garbage way to build a squad.

Sometimes though, you get a kyogo.

Fact is we can spend £10m and him be a flop. We cannot spend £20/30 so make sure he scores now and again. Thats why I don't mind loan to buys with a big price tag because atleast then you know its worth it. Eddy would have been a huge risk without that loan first. Same with jota, but now his buy is pennies because he has flourished and its not a risk.
